FWIW, this isn't exactly a review, but a second-hand one from an armorer that I thought fit best in this topic.

A relative of mine just started with a federal police department in D.C. This may be because he's a rookie, but they go to an appointed location to clean their weapons, which is considered on the clock.

I asked him what they used for cleaning, and he wasn't sure but it sounded pretty standard to me. I sent him a bottle of Hoppe's Elite (also sold as M-Pro-7, it's original name but now licensed to Hoppe's) and one of Rem-Oil, with a note about their advantages and that he could easily get both at any Wal-Mart.

When he brought these to the appointed place, the department armorer noticed what he was using, inquired about it, observed it, and was quite impressed. A big spirit-lifter to the youngest rookie on the department who otherwise knows less than everyone else, but also a high compliment to the products from the armorer.

Good story there. Good luck to your rookie relative.

I've tried Rem Oil - In our humid climate it's a poor corrosion protector, just like any other light oil I've tried. I prefer RIG Grease.

I really like the Hoppe's Elite, low odor for hunting rifles, suggested to me by another member, Rutro.;)

RIG universal is the best anti rust and corrosion protective I've ever used it's good for blued and SS. In fact all of their products are good I'm just having a hard time finding them here in Arizona.

Rem-oil is a good light weight/thin lube with good flow for getting into tight ereas, I allways keep some on hand.

I am not a hunter. I am a shooter and re finish my guns so my question is this. If scent is a big thing with animals, can they smell gun oil before they smell the hunter?
Would the smell alarm them to an intruder? I'm sure they wouldn't know two and two equals gunshot but would the odor cause them to run? Also, would an animal smell the oil before the man scent? I would think if odor is such a big thing that oil makers would formulate and test it to be able to tout the low odor qualities of their product. Maybe they should scent the oil with female scent to draw the prey right up to the barrel. Ha.
