I am looking to purchase a 1994 Ruger P-89 from and acquaintance.
It is new in the original case, never been shot, the gun was wrapped in the original plastic, looks like he may have opened it a few times to look at it, he also has the receipt for the gun which was purchased in 1994, the cost was like $340 some dollars.
He wants $350 for it. Its just a blued barrel, nothing special. Is there any way to find out the different models that were made in that year? Or does anyone know about what this model gun would be worth?

That's about an average gun show price. Somewhere between $350 > $400.
They have a heavy trigger but shoot fairly well, especially in SA. Dry firing it about 1K times will smooth it up some. I noticed that it wasn't as objectionable when it's live fired. I'm only aware of one model, then I'm not that big of an expert on P89's. They shoot about any ammo. Kind of a blocky pistol, built like a tank.

There is probably a collector value that would be destroyed if you shoot it. As an investment it will keep up with inflation, I doubt that it will ever be considered rare in our lifetime. I don't think you could do wrong on that pistol.

I think if you look at the prices in the Classified Section at the RugerForum.com, you'll get a better idea at what it may be worth.

Twodose that P-89 is one of the most reliable handguns I've had the pleasure of owning. I've had mine by the bed hot in the hole with a full clip of HydraShoks for years... never failed to light up. At least two or three times a year I take it to the range for a session and all I do is flip the safety/decocker up into fireing position and make that one long double action trigger pull. It has never failed to fire or digest anything I've fed it. What's realy fun is loading up the 30 round mag I've got for it. That can realy let ya rock & roll. I call it my Ruzy ....... Ruger reliabality pluss the 30 rd. Uze style magazine. Lots of people don't care for 'em because of lots of different reasons but once you shoot it a little and get used to the trigger it starts to grow on ya. Just put some three dot night sights on it and you're good to go day or night.

;)hey twodose-another thing to remember is that the ruger mags also fit the ruger pc9 carbine, and it is going to be a collector as they stopped manufacturing them, and many people that I know wished they would have bought them when they were available.Besides the value of an up and coming collector gun in the carbine is the versatility in a defensive firearm for the home or just for being out and about.Trust me when I say that the pc9 is very accurate right out of the box. ;)
