I am thinking of purchasing a M 14 Target 223, I will be useing it as a fun gun but mainly as a hunting-calling gun, will it shoot well right out of the box.....which stock works out the best in the field......what type of amo is it shooting well with in a hunting type situation.........which amo is the most hide freindly without loosing any acuracy.

Hornady 55 gr Tap ammo or about any ballistic tip will work on keeping hides in good shape. Hollow points work well too.;)

I agree...i love Ultramax Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets. If the shot is at 100 yards or so, you can actually hear the bullet make a WHOP sound kind of like a paddle hitting the water.

i love that sound of a bullet hitting flesh. I can hear it with a 308 on deer clear out to 200 yards.

Not good for hogs tho, one of the guys was using the 55 tap ammo in a Savage bolt rifle and hit a hog, made a WHAP sound but it ran away.;)

This is why it is best to shoot a hog in the head. ;)

I did get 1 of 2 shot in the head with a 65 Sierra sp and dropped him in his tracks but he had a buddy that took 3 rounds on the run and I did not find him! They are tough varmits, next time I'm loading up on Barnes Tripple Shok hp!;)

last time I went hunting with a (*gasp*) AR, I was shooting 55gr TAP and took 3 does in 3 shots in one sitting.

easy as pie

ETA: 1 head shot, 2 body shots, no running away

I own the Target and a std mini. The Target would not be my coyote gun. Too muzzle heavy and unweildy (sp?).

Check them out before you buy. The newer heavy barrel 580 series are running about 1.5 MOA with good loads.
