Just shot an M&P yesterday......lets just say I was not impressed with the pistol's "accuracy" if you can call it that.
Heres what happened.....my shooting buddy and I were just doing a little target practice at 12.5 yds at our local range, he was using his Kimber custom II and I had my Colts and a custom homebuilt 1911, we were doing standard weaver stance two handed drills shooting at moderate speeds aproximating a shot or two per second. After a few clips we had the centers shot out of all our targets.
As we were picking up our brass a nice guy showed up and helped us out, while we were packing up he brought out a S&W M&P in .45, I didn't know they were making them in .45 so we talked about it and he offered to let us try it out with him, he shot first.......using only strong hand, poor accuracy not hitting better than the outer rings. I thought well,....it's new, he's shooting strong hand....it's expected. Then my buddy shot it, two handed weaver,....same pattern....shots everywhere although he did manage two shots within two rings of the bullseye. I shot it last....suprisingly my grouping was the tightest but farthest away, a minimum 6 inches below the bullseye, one even hitting the bottom of the backstop,....all while I was aiming rediculasly high to compensate!
My conclusion...the gun is comfortable, lightweight and ergonomic, but a poor shooter. I've shot a few other poly-semi auto-double action pistols with similar results all having design and manufacturing roots from the europian theater in one way or another, my opinion is that a dedicated 1911 shooter like myself is spoiled from shooting them and the new DA poly guns are just to alien and hard to shoot for my tastes.
