Just shot an M&P yesterday......lets just say I was not impressed with the pistol's "accuracy" if you can call it that.

Heres what happened.....my shooting buddy and I were just doing a little target practice at 12.5 yds at our local range, he was using his Kimber custom II and I had my Colts and a custom homebuilt 1911, we were doing standard weaver stance two handed drills shooting at moderate speeds aproximating a shot or two per second. After a few clips we had the centers shot out of all our targets.
As we were picking up our brass a nice guy showed up and helped us out, while we were packing up he brought out a S&W M&P in .45, I didn't know they were making them in .45 so we talked about it and he offered to let us try it out with him, he shot first.......using only strong hand, poor accuracy not hitting better than the outer rings. I thought well,....it's new, he's shooting strong hand....it's expected. Then my buddy shot it, two handed weaver,....same pattern....shots everywhere although he did manage two shots within two rings of the bullseye. I shot it last....suprisingly my grouping was the tightest but farthest away, a minimum 6 inches below the bullseye, one even hitting the bottom of the backstop,....all while I was aiming rediculasly high to compensate!

My conclusion...the gun is comfortable, lightweight and ergonomic, but a poor shooter. I've shot a few other poly-semi auto-double action pistols with similar results all having design and manufacturing roots from the europian theater in one way or another, my opinion is that a dedicated 1911 shooter like myself is spoiled from shooting them and the new DA poly guns are just to alien and hard to shoot for my tastes.

well i've got a S&W Sigma SW40VE in .40cal and have noticed that if you're not used to the trigger you won't hit anything. i try to make it to my local range every other weekend or so and always bring my sigma along with a couple other of my favorites including my mini-14 and my S&W Model 19 K-frame target model... when i first brought my brand new sigma out i was not used to the heavy trigger and could not hit anything... i've shot many handguns pretty accurately including glocks and double-action revolvers, but the sigma took a little getting used to and possibly a little wear in on the trigger. but after a few trips and some rounds through the thing it's pretty accurate compared to other semi autos in it's field.

I currently own 2 M&Ps: a full size 40 and the full size 45. Like yours, my initial results were less than stellar. However, after just a bit of practice, I don't think there's a ten-ring that I'd consider safe at any reasonable range. :)

To both of my M&Ps, I've added AmeriGlo night sights, which are made with Trijicon inserts, and they help during the day along with in low-sight situations.

My next purchase will be the M&P 45 Compact ... with night sights.

Purchased on Tuesday, but will not get to the range until tomorrow. Looking forward to making this one of my carry guns.

I currently own one M&P - the full 9 and it is great to shoot. I am looking for another 45 and considering the M&P
