Went out this year at the farm in Kentucky. First morning I sat under my favorite tree from 530 til light. Had a owl try to land on me just before dawn, scared the crap out of me. Heard a Elk blowing in the distance at dawn.
Just when I was about to head back in out popped a nice young 9 point buck at about 20 yards away. I sat in my chair and didn't move, hoping he would walk away and not to me. He played around for a few minutes and then ran down the hill about 50 yards. Stopped, jumped around some more and then turned and looked right at me. Bad for him was I drew down on him when he turned away. Pop, he dropped in his tracks.
Sunday morning I went to the same spot, waited for the others to pop out of the woods, but never really did. At 830 I got out of my chair and started to walk to the house when I heard a shot over in the lower valley. I figured my buddy had dropped one. I went on to the house, but only about 10 more feet when I see a 8 point running across the ridge top towards the house. Well I couldn't let him get away. I drew the old 30.06 Remington 740 Woodsmaster and dropped him at 120 yards in full run. Damn! I wanted someone to see me do that shot! I couldn't beleive it myself. 2 nice bucks in 2 days. And the first time in almost 30 years I had been deer hunting. I haven't been deer hunting since I was 17 and went out with my Grandpa and Dad. Both of them are gone now, so maybe they were helping me.
I can't wait until next season already.
