Does cutting the barrel stop the barrel on mini 14 from getting to hot
Are you talking about cutting the barrel to make it shorter? or fluting the barrel?
Well if your talking about cutting it to make it shorter, the best answer is no! not enough metal on the barrel to dissipate the heat.
If you are talking about fluting the barrel it depends on the diameter of the barrel, If its a factory barrel I would say No. All you would be accomplishing with a factory barrel is to make it weaker and thats not good.
If its a replacement bull barrel of much larger than factory barrel it will but what are advantage are you looking for in a semi-auto weapon?
Hi Bearpower,
Duce1 is right. If the barrel were shortened significantly, the time/temp relationship of each shot would be shorter, which in turn would mean shot would be cooler, but you would need to make a snubby of your mini to realize any benefit. The best method to keep the mini from getting too hot is to load the factory 5 shot magazine with one round at a time -:D
good one John. you forgot the walk to the target & back. 1 shot 200yds. lukewarm barrel.
