Lil' deer, long shot, for me anyway.

This was at 165 yds with a Mossberg factory slug barrel & 3" Federal sabots, the hole you see is the exit wound, the entrance was closer to the shoulder and a little higher. The gun is 3" high at 100 yards and I had to lay the crosshair even with his back to get a vital hit. I know This 6 point could have been left in the woods but the venision shelf in the freezer is empty and it was a windy, crappy day here so I took what I could get.

Not a bad deer. Not at all. Quit beating yourself up.

As for the shot.....well done. That is a bit of a challenge with a slug gun at 165!

Oh, I'm not cryin', but the ground shrinkage is a bite, thought he was bigger. I missed a larger doe on the way out there. She and I saw each other at the same time, she slammed her front legs into the ground her head and ears snapped up and I swear she made a noise that was the deer version of "EEK!" She ran faster scared than I could shoot mad. Someday I'll learn hunting starts as soon as you load your gun. I was out to get one in the freezer and that's done, I can afford to get picky now.

Wow, that is impressive, you don't see deer taken that ofter with slugs, let alone at that distance, great job.

An ol' marine I used to work with bragged at being able to take VC snipers out of the trees at 100 yds with a slug gun in 'nam!
