Hi, All:
I have a T/C Contender Super 14 bbl. in 45/70, with the factory muzzle tamer. I am wondering if a .45LC cartridge could be fired, safely in this 45/70 bbl.? The .45LC cartridge and the 45/70 cartridge both have the same outside dimentions, .480. The rim diameter on the 45/70 is.608 diameter, and .070 thick. the 45LC rim diameter is .512, and .060 thick. Anyone have any knowledge on this matter?
Thanks.

You can get yourself into trouble real quick by throwing in a cartidge that's relatively close to the chamber/bore. I can't remember the difference in pressure between the two cartridges, but the T/C should be held to mild trapdoor pressures. I also question accuracy, if it could be fired, but the main thing is pressure and small dimesional differences in the cartridges. And why would you want to shoot the 45 colt in the 45/70 barrel anyway? Buy a 45 colt/410 bbl.
