Here's some pics of two stocks that I recently finished filling in the holes on.
I used Permatex metal filler. I'm not good enough to quit my day job and take this up as a living, but it did turn out well enough to serve it's purpose.

1. I prepped the hole area with sand paper. (Inside, and out)
2. I took a drill with 1/16 drill bit, and drilled 3 holes into the inside base of the hole. I drilled another in the switch area.
3. I took 4 tac nails, and set them in the holes, making sure that they set in them so that they would not be sticking out to high.
4. Once I had them where I wanted them, I took super glue, and glued them into the holes. This acted like rebar for the fill.
5. I took a piece of duct tape, and taped over the outside of the hole, leaving enough sticking above the hole, so that I was able to sand it down , and shape it to conform to the shape of the stock.
6. I filled hole up with the Permatex. (This stuff starts setting very fast, and comes out the tube fairly thick. I used my finger to kinda give it a rough shape near the top. (Less sanding later)
7. Set the stock in the sun for about 2-3 hours to allow the fill to set.
8. Removed the tape, and began to sand it into shape. As airbubbles showed, I took a little fill, and attepted to fill them as best I could. The 1st stock I did this too was the tan colored stock pictured. You can tell by the pic that my 2nd stock turned out a little better.
9. I wiped down the stock, and set it in the rifle, to ensure that it would mount/lock up to it the way I wanted. I sanded it down, or added to as needed.
10. Paint used on both stocks was Krylon "camoflage". spray paints. I used OD green as the base coat on one stock, and tan for the other.
11. 3 base coats, per stock. About 3min between coats, then hit them both with my own little attempt at a camo job.
12. I let both stocks set over night, then mounted them to the rifles in the pics.

Learning curve notes:
1. The Permatex seems to be holding up well, and just as good as JB weld. (They were outa JB when I went to the store)
2. I took a piece of 550cord, and suspended the stock from its front sling swivel prior to hitting it with paint. I like this idea better than my previous one........(Hitting it on one side, letting it dry a little, then flipping it over, and hitting the other side)
3. In the future, I will take more time to let the filler set as I fill in air bubles, and get the final shape where I want it.
4. Before I do anything, I will write down my own steps to ensure that I dont skip one. ( I had just started to fill, and then remembered that I forgot to glue the nails in. Had to back up and punt.......so to speak)
5. I will spend much more time in future when prepping a stock for paint, if it has already been painted before. I missed a few spots on one stock that was painted white, while sanding. The missed areas did show after some minor handleing, and bugged me enough to re-sand these areas so that the paint would be less likely to peel off in these areas.
6. Not sure if you can tell by the pics, but I painted the metal on the "green stock", and removed it prior to painting the "tan stock". In the future, I will prep the metal by using somthing like rubbing alchohol prior to paint........although, it's a simple fix with a touchup shot of paint.
7. The hot TX sun allowed me to cut down the dry time considerably. The last time, I painted a stock was during a KS winter. The hot sun also seemed to not only make the paint set faster, but set stronger, so to speak. It pretty much baked it on. The stock was hot to the touch in between coats.

BTW........... I decided not to paint the handgaurds, till I get a few more of them. I left the MossyOak HG in place for the pic to give vieiwers a better contrast to the color of the stock. I also have more than one stock per rifle.
Hope this helps if anyone out there is thinkin of fillin in the hole. My total bill for this was under 10 bucks, and I still have enough supplies to do 2 more stocks. The hardest part was finding the time to do it. I hate to start a project, and then not be able to finish it before somthin else comes up. :D
