View Full Version : DEER PIC with Mini30
Here is my best deer so far with my Mini 30. Here in Central Texas we have tons of deer and this was number 6 with my mini30 and all were taken with Wolf 154 gr. and all were one shot kills and all within 100 yds.
Just found the site and love the info to help me with my 2 Mini's 14/30.

Nice! Good shooting WENDALL.
that is a dandy 8 Wendall. perfect rack. i hunt Mich with my m-30 & use Cor-Bon 150 gr. i just got a digital cam recently so maybe some pics this fall. again, beautiful buck.
Thanks, I have been on this ranch for 6 years and really have enjoyed the place. We see 20+ deer a day so it keeps you on your toes. The kids really keep entertained since they are not just looking at trees and rocks. There is always deer to watch when we go out. I'm kinda spoiled myself. We can kill 5 deer a year, up to 2 bucks, so we take full advantage and fill lots of tags and it seems we don't even scratch the surface since there are too many deer. It's a rough job but somebody has to do it.
Very nice buck! Do you hog hunt with the mini 30 as well?
I love hog hunting, but have not had the chance to hog hunt with it yet. I hope to get a chance this fall due to a rancher needing a bunch of hogs removed and he needed 4 guys with high capacity mags. So hopefully I will get a chance to fill all my friends and families freezers this fall. I don't like to hunt them when it is warm due to the great smell wild pigs have. So I did pass a few chances this past spring. I have shot a few and feel good the mini30 will do a great job on them.

Where in Central Texas , if I may ask?? If this Michigan economy doesn't turn around sometime soon my Wife and I have decided to head to Texas to live.
Last Christmas we spent 10 days in San Antonio and absolutely loved it.
Jeff
The place is about 85 miles west of Waco. It is just on the northern tip of the Hill Country. San Antonio is a great place. The ranch is about 125 + miles north of San Antonio. I no longer have that lease but may have found another place between Ft Worth and Abilene. I had to find some plave closer to home @ 2.99 a gallon for diesel.

Oh! One more think. Uncle Ted Nugent hangs out in Texas as much as he does in Michigan, so he didn't wait as long as you to make the move.:D

I like the 154 grain in theory but shot some today and the point of impact was about 4 inches low at 25 yards, with my rear flip up iron sight at its highest setting.
It shoots 125 grain 1 inch high at 50 at this setting so that is what I use.
I guess I'll have to get a scope or mod an M1 carbine rear to use the 154 grainer with iron sights.
My mini is quite an accurate little carbine.
Super nice buck congrats.
I have to site in my Mini/30 scope for that load period. If I switch to the 123/122 loads it does impact differently for me also. So many variables, longer bullet, slower projectile, different barrel harmonics. There is no switching back and forth during deer season for me. If I do switch it is a trip to the gun range to get back on zero for a different load. My mini14 is alot more forgiving when switching loads/brands. I just made sure I had a few hundred rounds of the 154gr. so if they get hard to find I will have plenty for years to come for deer/hog hunting.
