View Full Version : Oops... just realized Harris bipod adapter won't fit with Accu-strut.

I bought a Harris Mini-14 bipod adapter without knowing how it attached to the rifle (I bought it online, and there was no picture, so I didn't know how it fit). Turns out it fits right over the gas block, where the Accu-strut fits too. So they aren't compatible. Maybe worth a warning on the product?
(Edit note--see my next post)
Yes, it will work. Install the Harris adaptor first. The strut will still nestle over the gasblock, but of course will stop against the Harris. Clamp the strut in place, and it will function just fine. We used such a set-up in testing for about a year.
The Harris adaptor is in fact already mentioned in the FAQ section on the website.

I forgot to mention: I also have a Bushmaster muzzle brake, which is rather thick around the front sight portion of the muzzle, limiting how far forward the strut can go. So its the combo of the bipod adapter and a Bushy muzzle brake is what won't work... maybe I should edit the thread title, sorry.

This evening I talked to my friend who also has the Bushmaster muzzle brake, and he was able to fit the Harris bipod adapter and the Accu-strut too. So I guess I could have been able to fit it all, barely, if I had just kept everything a tiny bit more snug.
For another BBS I posted a pic of the guns I keep in this state, and you can see the Mini and what a tight fit it is, without the adapter. http://pages.sbcglobal.net/pdd/5%20firearms%20top.JPG
Also, I got the email about additional clamps to keep the strut secure, but mine hasn't moved at all. I used the alcohol swabs and Loc-tite in that additional mailing before I installed it. When I shoot my Mini, I put 20 round downrange in about a minute, spend about 10 minutes resetting targets, then do it again. This is hot enough to partially melt the glue holding the switch for the tac lite. But the Strut holds its position just fine.
