I picked one of these up tonight. Someone mounted some kind of 1913 rail - very solid on mine. (The rings, see through, are still there too.) Unfortunately, someone took off the rear iron sight when they did this. There are a number of different types of rear sights that I saw for sale at DSA's site. Does anyone know what kind I need for this one, or if I can get some kind of site that just attaches to the rail?

I paid 400 bucks, with three 20rd mags, a one year warranty ran another 20. I got it at a Gander Mountain and was told that it had been testfired and head spaced. Was this a decent price?

And finally, is it okay to fire commercial .308 ammo in this rifle? (The receiver is stamped .308, not 7.62mm Nato). Is steel cased ammo such as Wolf or Silver Bear okay to fire in a FAL? Any information would be appreciated.

Ok. The L1A1 is an "inch" gun. You will need an inch rear sight. You can find those for sale here www.gunpartsguy.com. Heres a link for the specific part http://estore.websitepros.com/832529/Detail.bok?no=165 .

Since you now own one of the worlds finest MBRs may I suggest that you check out www.falfiles.com. WARNING: FALs are addictive! :)

Also, 400 bucks is a great price! I am assuming that is a Century rifle on a Century receiver. These go for around 5-600 bucks from what I have seen in the marketplace. If your rifle is built on an Imbel receiver, the receiver alone is worth more than the price you paid for the rifle. Thats why I'm betting it was built on a Century.

Now for the downside... the days of cheap 7.62x51 milsurp are over. At least at the present time. Milsurp is averaging $0.50/rd.. You can fire either NATO ammo or .308 Win in your rifle.

Congratulations. If you are like me you will need more than one FAL. Today my para FAL is my most cherished one.
