I've got a M1 carbine receiver that just cracked on both sides, see pic on curio & relic this sight.I was told that people have had them welded is this possible? safe? Thanks.Jay
It is weldable and safe - provided you have a really good welder do it for you. I wish I could tell you that I'm that good, but I'm not.
Ask around for a welder with firearms experience and also look around for a heat treatment plant. After welding the receiver will need to be re-heat treated and refinished. You might want to pick up a new receiver instead or part out your carbine for funds to buy a new one. That's probably not what you want to hear, but welding, heat treating and refinishing will set you back a fair amount, plus the cost of reassembling the carbine. Thanks!

Thanks ,I was thinking that after the machining and heat treating I would be better off getting another receiver cost wise. I've seen them from 100 bucks at numrich to 500 bucks at auctions and gun shows.Again thanks for your reply sir.
