View Full Version : Intratec TEC DC-9 Opinions?
Hello All,
I have the opportunity to purchase a pre-ban Intratec TEC DC-9 semi automatic 'pistol' for a VERY good price.
I know the specifications, and history on this firearm, so that is not my question. My question is what is your opinion of this firearm? Do any of you own one, or fired one?
Any input would be appreicated.
Thanks!

Well pre-ban is a moot thing now since the ban is gone anyways. Perhaps in some areas it's a special thing but elslewhere that is just something the seller thinks adds something to the price and the owner thinks makes it more "tactical".
Ok, Tec-9...Pass. They just simply don't do a thing for me. <_< The few I've actually looked at seemed cheap and not exactly a quality firearm. It's not something for accurate shooting but rather a noise maker. Got other things that make noise. The company went belly-up in '01 so there's no manufacturer upport should an iuue arise (which happens with these I understand) I'd definately spend my money on something better.
With these firearms, the pre-ban and post ban makes a difference. The pre-ban ones had a threaded barrel, and barrel shroud. The post-ban ones did not have these. That is why I stated pre-ban.
I appreciate your input BLKHAWK73. It is helpful!

Ok, slight differences. bbl shroud??? just for looks and for those that think it's a "tactcial" thing. The threaded bbl??? Unless there's a suppresor in your future, it's just another useless "tactical" thing sitting there for looks.
Yes I realize that the differences were 'slight', but obvious none the less. Yes, it has a barrel shroud, and a threaded barrel for a supressor, or a flash hider. The later post ban ones did not have these 'tacticool' features.
I went out to the guys house today and looked at the TEC 9. He wanted 250 for it. I told him it was worth no where near that. What a junky 'gangsta' pile it was. I told the man I'd pass.
I went to my Father In Laws house and got his Smith and Wesson Model 28
.357 Magnum instead.
Thanks for the input, I appreciate it!

The fact that they stoped making these things was the only good thing about the ban.
I have fired several over the years and reliability is a far distant concept. Run, don't walk.

MIne was junk. In order for it too fire you had to throw the gun forward, kind of in a punching motion. SOme gansta probally broke it in trying to shoot it like the see on TV.
throw it in a pond for someone to find years from now. it will puzzle someone and make their day more interesting. Keep the bullet in your pocket to throw at the enemy. The lead will then be delivered in a far bettter fashion.

I owned a post ban Tec DC9. When I got it, I took it apart, cleaned and lubed it and put it back together. It ran flawlessly. I guess I got a good one. It had the screw-on barrel extension(not a suppressor) that added length to the gun, better accuracy and handling and had 1, 30 round factory mag. For me it was nothing but a fun, range gun...nothing more, nothing less.
