In order to vote consider that you are in a situation regardless of its nature, and you can have ONLY one handgun, which would you pick from the list below: (I have the ones with * in front)
1. Glock*
2. H&K USP
3. Colt 1911*
4. Beretta 92FS*
5. Ruger*
6. Makarov*
7. .357 Colt (king cobra)*
8. .44 Mag
9. .500 Mag
10. Desert Eagle
11. Smith & Wesson Sigma*

Feel free to name one which is not in the list.

.22 lr in a Buckmark. This is as close to a do all firearm as anything could be. 2nd choice would be a Thompson Contender with a couple of barrels e.g. .35 rem, & .22lr

I once owned a H&K USP .45. The most dumb thing I ever did was to get rid of it. Probably the finest working piece of machinery I have ever had the pleasure to touch.

Sorry, I found the list a little confusing. It mixes generic name brands, like Smith and Wesson, with specific models, like the Beretta 92fs. Are we choosing a model of a gun, or a manufacturer of guns?

I guess going with a specific model, I would have to vote "other" and choose the CZ 75, in 9mm, as my ultimate go-to option. A close second would be any type of Kimber 1911. It sure surprised me not to see either Kimber, or Springfield--the two major American makers of quality affordable 1911's today--even on the list.

i take my high standard Victor over any of them. as said the 22lr can handle a lot of chores.

I had a High standard Victor. It couldn't hold a candle to my Smith & Wesson Model 41 .22lr

Maybe I'm just being sentimental but after 13 years and thousands of rounds flawlessly through my Sig P226 9MM, I just can't imagine being without it.

You are right Sig should have been included in the Poll. I guess it falls in other category. Once the poll is complete, let put sig in and match it up against the top five winners here?

This is not an easy question to answer based upon the list & unknown circumstances. I had to go with Smith & Wesson, simply because . . . for whatever reason . . .

17 of the 20 something odd guns I own are Rugers, so I guess I would pick a Ruger. Now, that could mean anything from a Bearcat to a Super Blackhawk, to a P89 or P90, so I, like others here, find the question/poll somewhat pointless.

I wold pretty much take a colt anything over a glock.

As much as i love my Hk's I went with Ruger. In "a situation regardless of its nature" I'll take a Ruger single action. capable of big and little creatures with 2 or 4 legs. Simple operation. Superbly rugged construction.

Although I have COLT 1911 and keep it as a relic, but never carry it to a combat sensitive situation. I dont understand why people like it so much as polls reflect. It is good psitol, but cannot be an all time best. Just a very old technology. A good limited edition with engravins might be the one to keep.

Because they work. Good enough reason I guess. Second reason, big holes to bleed out of.

The 1911 is easy for new shooters to hit with. It is accurate. A 45 is a great meat slapping round. It fits well in almost anyones hand. The poll has other problems. What is the best pistol in what situation? conceiled? Personal protection? hunting?
I like em all.
