Heres a pic of my newly acquired chinese SKS. All numbers match, the serial number starts with a 1....so according to this site http://www.simonov.net/uberid.htm the gun was made in 1957. Any comments are welcome.
Congratulations on your new to you SKS! You will enjoy it tremendously. They are GREAT fun to shoot, and it is really nice to own a functioning piece of history!
I would get rid of that plastic stock though, and find an original wood stock for your historical beauty!
Have fun with it!

Great sks, if your sks was all matching # ,I hope you didn't sand the stock matching numbers, be carefull of the matching ones they are worth the most. I took a mint chinese all matching sks and made this, since the wood was so frangle ,and built this bad boy, takes' me less then 5 minutes to put it back to stock. Good job n look great.
Heres the link to mine.

i dont think that gun was made in 1957 unless it was a modified original but looking at the distance between the front sight and gas block I would say its a paratrooper model.

Don't waste your keystrokes; he knows everything about everything:

Of course, a paratrooper very well could have been made in 1957 and chopped upon importation to the US. All paratroopers are modified originals;. none started life as a "paratrooper."

I see what yer saying lol!!
I didnt that all paratroopers were modified originals? I was under the impression from what a few others have told me that the paratrooper models were more recent production like from the 80's early 90's.

The paratrooper models are modified original, and they can be from any year of manufacture. They didn't discriminate:D
