Hey all,
I just picked up a new Mil-Spec .45 and was curious as to any ammo suggestions for practice. I plan on hitting the range or the woods this weekend to run through a few boxes to see what she likes. Any suggestion on some stuff to try. Inexpensive is a plus.

Thanx Yall

Mine is older, but it has eaten everything I've ever put in it from day one.

made my first trip to the range yesterday and shot 100 cci blazer brass fmj and 50 PMC brass JHP..
no FTF or any other problem.
My grouping was pretty awful til the last couple of clips when i was able to keep it around 3 inches @10 yards... but thats all on me not the gun.. yesterday was the first time Ive shot a .45 and it took a little getting use to.
I did find the recoil out of this gun actually felt a little stronger than the 9s i have previously shot, but it also seemed a little smoother. Tell ya what though, IMO, the 1911 style is the best feeling handgun I think Ive ever shot.
Im hoping to go again today or tommorow and try a few more boxes of the lower priced bullets and see what happens.

made another trip to the range this weekend and put 100 winchester bulk box from walmart another 50 CCI blazer brass and 50 more PMC jhp.. still not a problem. I did notice, however, that after 100+ rounds when I switched to the CCI the accuracy was garbage.. With the winchester i would keep all the shots in the head, chest or groin in groups of about 3-5 inches at 15 yards.
The CCI would put holes on the other end of the paper. I tried changing up my grip and stance but no help.. Im gonna stay away from CCI.
Im gonna save a little and buy some higher end stuff. Ill give an update when it happens.

Anyone have any favorites? Are there any specific hotter loads that I should give a try.

Thanx

This is not speaking from personal experience, but the guy who always shoots alongside me at my range is a friend, and he is a big 1911 expert, has about 6 of 'em. He really likes good ole' Federal American Eagle, shoots it in I think ball ammo 230gr. Burns clean, nice and accurate for practice, not too expensive.

I have to agree with you. On my xd45, the only one to shoot CCI so far, the groups went out the window. Im gonna stay away from it as soon as its gone. UMC, federal, and miwall reloads all shot beautifully. CCI made me think I was having a really bad day.

I have been using Monarch 230gr fmj at the range, works realy good and accuracy is about the same as winchester ammo and its a bit cheaper.

Your gun is brand new and have you ever shot a 1911 before?
