I picked up a used super 14 223 barrel at the Tulsa Gun Show this last weekend, I can't wait to site in. I gave $155 for it, looks like it was in good condition. Anyone else like the 223 barrels?

I have been shooting Super 14 .223 Contenders since 1982. I shoot more rounds at Varmints & Coyotes per year than I do any other type of Hunting so naturally a Varmint Cartridge is what I use the most. I have always been impressed with the Accuracy and Performance of the .223 Remington Cartridge in a Super 14 T/C Contender.

I have even tried my hand at the .223 Remington in a 10" T/C Contender a time or two also, but I never did care for the shorter barrel.

My current Super 14 .223 T/C Contender is a new Stainless-Steel G2 Frame with an equally new Stainless-Steel Barrel. I have a Burris 3x12x LER Handgun Scope with Fine Plex Reticle and Target Turrets mounted to this barre. With it's perferred load consisting of 40gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips loaded with Hodgdon Benchmark Powder lit by Federal Gold Medal Match Primers in Lake City Military Brass shoots amazingly accurate. A month or so ago I shot 4 - 5 shot groups from the bench at 100 yards with this load and the average was .629" center to center.

I had high hopes of bagging a Coyote or two with this load but have not had the opportunity as yet.

I shot my T/C last weekend and really liked it. I just need to site in with some 55 Nosler bt and 22 gr Reloader 10. This load also does well out of my mini 14 and Savage bolt. Maybe I can get out this weekend again. I really like the light weight carry for the warmer months when I get out and scout for varmits.

I guess I have never really shot many 55's out of the Contenders.

I always have shot mainly from 40's to 52's out of the Contender Handguns I have had in .223. For years I used the 52gr. Speer Flat Base Hollow Points with excellent results. I then (for some reason I do not remember) started loading 40gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips for my .223 Contender Handguns and that is what I have been using since.

Glad you are liking the .223 Contender.

SD, didn't you tell me you have some buddies that do guide work around Montana? It may have been stoney that told me that. I hope to get up to South Dakota again for phesant and varmit shooting, good for the t/c!

The .223 is a great round out of the Contender. You made me reminice for the "good ol' days" when $50-$70 would get you a barrel at a gun show. It made the Contender a great option for those on a budget

I have shot a .223 14" for a long time, and its a fine round in the Contender if either hunting or shooting targets out to any range. :D
