I am wanting to get a red dot sight for my mini, but i have been seeing here that the mini can be tough on them. Is there a red dot sight that works well with a mini-14 and wont be too expensive? i was hoing for somthing under $100. any ideas?
I have used Tasco Pro Points for many many years.
Never had a problem with any of them.
When I need one for a new firearm, I usually buy it through one of the auction sites.
For example:

This auction ends in 10 minutes, but the link will let you see the closing price to give you an idea of what they go for. Auctions can require patience to get a good deal.
Edited to add:
I really prefer the smaller tube models (33mm) to the larger (42mm) ones. The mounting system is far superior.
I had a Tasco Pro-Point on my mini for a while, it got to the point where it would turn on and off as the bolt operated. I'd say move up in price range a little, I have a Burris Extreme Tactical and it works great. I also here good things about the Truglo, Red Dot.
Millett has a variety of terrific little red dots. I have one on a factory folder and it works very well. Just under $100 delivered.
Gotta go with bwraven. I've had a Tasco pro-point on mini's for years with absolutely no problems. Same sight on and off various guns has never missed a beat.
I just bought a Busnhell Trophy red dot today for about $60.
Going shooting tomorrow, I'll let you know if it holds up (shooting at least 300 rounds)

Me to!
Ok.
Sorry for the thread hijack, but here goes.
Put about 150 rounds down range today. Really crappy weather.. it poured rain the whole time. Will probably go again tomorrow.
In short, the scope did fine.
Was getting fist sized groups at 50 yards, starting from a cold barrel. Rifle is a 186 series, nothing done to it other than ultimak rail and a pin on compensator. Oh, and I have a rear bolt buffer made of an RC car tire.
My only complaint is the size of the dot... 6 moa. At 50 yards, it pretty much covered the bullseye. There's a slightly more expensive one with 4 dots to choose from, one of which is 3 moa. One looks cool - 65 moa circle with a 3 or 4 moa dot in the center. Found it for $90 locally. If this one holds up well, I may think about the multi dot scope.

Thanks for the info. Does the buffer help with the life of the scope/sights? if so where can i find one?
Buffer is supposed to help scope life. Recoil seems to be a little lower. I only have a buffer on the rear (where the spring sits on the receiver). I think some folks have one on the front, too, on the gas block.
I dug around in the basement to find a thin piece of tough rubber. RC car tyre. Just cut it to fit with a knife and a pair of scissors. Some people use basketballs, or vacuum cleaner belts. I can snap a picture if you'd like.

That would be great, i havnt realy had a chance to take apart my mini yet, i only had a chance to shoot it once. Just enough to learn i need much more practice.
Take a look here:

They have a decent picture showing where the buffer goes.
