Oregon Firearms Federation Alert:
Shooting Range "Shut Down" Bill Goes To Ginny Burdick's Committee
On February 28th, we warned you about a bill that was written to close virtually every shooting range in the state.

At the time, the bill was in draft (http://oregonfirearms.org/pdfs/2007%20LC%20Drafts/LC%20142shootingranges.pdf) form. We promised to keep you informed of its progress.

As many of you know the bill now exists in bill form. It is SB 1012 (http://www.leg.state.or.us/07reg/measures/sb1000.dir/sb1012.intro.html)

Yesterday the bill was assigned to Ginny Burdick's Judiciary Committee. As you know, Burdick is Oregon's most fanatical gun hater.

It is imperative that you contact the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and express your opposition to this very dangerous bill. A suggested message appears at the bottom of this page. Feel free to alter it.

You can find all the e-mail addresses for Senate Judiciary Committee members here (http://oregonfirearms.org/senatejudiciary.html).

You can find info for all Senators here (http://oregonfirearms.org/Senate2007.html).

You can see all bills in both html and easier to read PDF format here (http://www.leg.state.or.us/07reg/measures/main.html).

You can contact your own representatives, even if you don't know who they are by using this lin (http://www.leg.state.or.us/writelegsltr/)k (http://www.leg.state.or.us/writelegsltr/).

You may also want to consider contacting your local police department. Many departments rely on local private ranges for practice. Obviously their costs will skyrocket if this bill becomes law.

Suggested Text:

Dear Senator,

Senate Bill 1012 is extreme, unneeded and unwise.
At a time when everyone agrees that firearms safety is essential, SB 1012 would effectively close virtually every range where people can safely shoot.
I urge you in the strongest terms to oppose this draconian and dangerous legislation.
Very truly yours,

 More than that M76;we should go after the creators of this bill the same way and with the same resolve as was used to get jim zumbo out of his position! This kind of crap is only done by people who wish to gain some type of historical notoriety or due to some knee jerk experience of a seeming "do gooder" that was told by someone that they heard a gun shot from a range and their kid exagerated/imagined and said someone was shooting at them. There is a range over here in east county at present that one of it's own members is trying several frivolous lawsuits against with all kinds of proven false claims because said member is a pain in the backside of society. It sounds to me that this might just be an escalation of that situation.Only now taken to a whole new level!!!<_<
