Very nice rifle Coyote. It shoots good too. How do you like the simons scope? I'm looking at buying another scope.
Do you have a tuner or pad in the forestock under the barrel. I've looked at the Bug tunner site, but it seems to be down. Have been using cardboard till I find a tuner.

Very nice looking rifle Coyote! And I like that you did everything in blue (barrel and receiver). I think the "old" bluing still has something to it. Nothing against the stainless guys on here, just my personal opinion.

Thank guys>
cajungeo : The Simmons 1048 mag scope works just fine. The only bad thing is that the cross-hairs are a little thick. I have three of them, but I also have the Weaver V24 and Weaver KT15. Those are my choice of scopes. I compared them to the Leupold scopes and found them just as good, clear for a lot less money. I do not have any pad in the fore-stock. The Bell and Carlson stocks have a built in pad in the front. I have found that this setup works really well. The only thing if I had to do it over would be to not purchase a fluted barrel with the B&C stock. Need a little more weight, because the stock is quite light.
I like wood but somehow the B&C stock just fit this rig and I thought it worked out pretty well. Now my Marlin 17VS....well its got a Richard Micro laminated stock in the desert sunset.........

Both my Fajen stocks had a bump under the barrel, which I removed to free float the barrels. Maybe I should have left them in, but my plan was to free float, then find the sweet spot with the proper pressure under the barrel, instead of relying on a factory preset pressure. Am still looking for an adjustable one. I may have to make one, but I do like the idea of a clickable adjustment.

THAT IS ONE SWEET SETUP I'LL BET SHE'S ACCURATE AS HELL VERRY NICE...I'M JEALOUS I WANT THAT RIFLE........:D :D :D :D
I know that there are many around but I am going to up date my little old 10/22. Picture to follow. I decided to up date the little feller - and took all my parts and made a 10/22 rifle up for the wife. She is short and weak (be very very quite about this  ) so I left the original stock on and the light barrel -she got the scope and the ruger action with all the Volquartsen parts. Going to retire in a year - so while I had the money - will make the changes.
Old 10/22 picture:
(dang - lost the picture)
The 10/22 above - stock was sold and all the parts went into my wife's 10/22 show below" now a new purple stock is on the way for her gun. *SIGH*
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b36/larryschwager/Purple1022.jpg
And now - Here is the new one:
New 10/22 action but changed to the following:
GM 20" fluted barrel
WeaponKraft bolt buffer
New Ruger 10/22 L.R. bolts completely reworked from Randy at CPC
IMG]hVolquartsen Custom Trigger Guard 2000 Ruger
Burris Signature Zee rings
Weaver KT 15 15 power scope
Bell and Carlson Anschutz Style stock (sold the thumb hole Bell and Carlson Anschutz stock)
New picture:

Wish I could post a better shot group - but with 25 - 35 mph wind gusts - not too bad? (50 yards)
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b36/larryschwager/DSCF0464.jpg
NICE.
After looking at your rifle and thinking those sun shades don't look too bad, I put mine on my scope. Amazing! I could actually see! Yeah, yeah, I know that's why they call them sunshades.

Yeah, those groups look pretty typical of what my Thompson 22 shoots in crosswind conditions. Hopefully the wind will die down this weekend and you'll be able to drive some tacks with it. ;)
P.S. I Like the Anschutz style stock on that rifle!

Both rifles are very nice. You do good work Coyote!.
Just curious, why did you replace the B & C thumbhole stock?
Just curious, why did you replace the B & C thumbhole stock?
cajungeo - the reason I replaced the thumbhole was that when I gripped the stock the upper part of my thumb knuckle rubbed on the top of the hole. I have ex-large hands and it was very unconformable to shoot the rifle. I love the B&C stock - so I wanted to go back to the same thing. I love those stocks!!!

Does the fluted barel help much
The fluted barrel is mainly to reduce weight and cool the barrel more. If I had it to do again - I would get the bull barrel - not fluted - just to have the extra weight. I really do not think that a 22 will over heat while being shot.

Yea I knew it cooled the barrel but I ment does it help the accuracy . and your right I dought a 22 will over heat much.
Bo Duke - does it help the accuracy - I build my wife the same thing with a different stock but without full bull barrel. No I do not think that the fluted barrel helps with accuracy. Maybe if it is a large caliber rifle where the whip would be a condensation - but not with the 22. Cooling would be more of a factor...but again I do not think a 22 heats up that much.

This is the famous fallacy of fluting, proported to improve the accuracy of a barrel. As an engineer, I can tell you any time you remove material, you reduce the stiffness and subsequently DECREASE the accuracy (though the losses are trivial). Barrel fluting is only advantageous for 3 reasons
1) Asthetics - it looks cool
2) Weight Reduction - Lighter and handier
3) Faster Cooling - more surface area means better heat transfer
cajungeo

I agree, and if I may add to what AR said, the fluting process also introduces machining stress into the barrel which could make it less accurate.
I can say my 18" fluted A & B shoots the same group size as my 20" Green Mountain Bull barrel.

yeah, but like you said, weight reduction. those bull barrels are freakin' heavy

you're kidding i hope...that is defintly something special
My wife's Purple 10/22 with all VQ parts and trigger group - CPC Bolt and MG bull barrel and a Simmons Mag 44 scope. Tuck's stock - the butt stock picture looks like it has scratches in it - the lines are the reflection from the field. Thats how glossy it is - have to remove my finger prints after I handled it. Wife's orders.
This little puppy is a shooter.

Ohhhh it's so purty! Nice looken rifle Coyote. Maybe she can shoot in our on line shooting contest starting in a couple of weeks. Say you don't think she will make us all look bad do you?
Say you don't think she will make us all look bad do you?
Our range is pretty muddy right now - but last fall - I just sat her at a bench - 50 yard bench - gave her two boxes of Wolf Match target ammo and then started my own shooting. I went through about 4 boxes of ammo - she would shoot - look around - fiddle with her hair - ect. (you get the picture). I finally went over to her and asked her why she was not shooting more. She said well I have shot 3 magazines (30 rounds.) Okay - lets look at the targets. Mine first - cause I want to show her how its done. Not bad groups - Most you could cover with a nickle. We walk over to her targets. :o  <_< :( all three targets - have one little ragged hole in them - well heck - got to count the round cause she had to throw some - somewhere????
As we walked back to the bench - asked her if I could use her comb so I could fix MY hair........geeeesssss
Addeded one more....... ;)

Nice, ones Coyote! I would like to get my hands on some laminated wood and build something like a crossover of all yr purty stocks. Is that straight top on the laminated stock helpful? i've never tried but it looks cool, and that's reason enough to build one. ;)

Yes I love the straight top - for me its so much easier to see the scope with out tilting my head. I think you would really like it......... ;)

Very nice Coyote. It is difficult for there to be only one. ;)
Well not really as I love spending snowing days in my shop - after purchasing a few 10/22 stocks - I got to butcher them up a little.
Was fun - now to just get good at it.

Thats is some really nice work! You must have spent some time on those, how long did they take?
Killer@nz - Thanks - and I can not really give you a time frame as I am retired ( or retarted as my grand daughter said) and just worked on them when ever I wanted. You see I now have 6 Saturdays - one Sunday - and it quitting time - any time. :D I learned to slow down when working on projects - I do much better work that way.
nice work, same here,i have a broken lens from my harley with a note to slow down,i look at it whenever i get inpatiant.a costly reminder, but it works! again great work on the stocks

I merged your 2 threads as we are limited to one thread per member in the gallery.
Coyote - Very nice job, How did you lighten the stock?
Thanks
Thanks Caju - sorry about the two threads.
Zeke
The stock was sanded down to the original wood - then just finished with gun stock oil. I love the natural finish on wood -
Thanks Coyote
I too like the natural look - I recently read a post where the person talked about bleaching the stock. Your stock looks simular. Thanks
