Here's my first wall hanger.
In 2005 I got in on a lease on a farm and took my cousin as a guest during the early October muzzleloader season. We got on the farm at about 4pm Saturday and the farmer was still taking down the cornstalks till about 5:30pm. We were in a 2 man ladder stand and 2 nice does came out on the field about a half hour after the tractor drove off. I asked my cousin if he wanted to take a doe or hold out for something else, ie one of the bucks I had seen. Well, he lives by his if it is brown it is down philosophy, said he wanted some early meet for his freezer so he shot a nice doe. We were sitting for 2 minutes talking about the shot (he didn't reload) when out stomps a big 8 pointer. I offered him my gun but he just smiled and told me to shoot it. After we went and dragged our deer I asked him why didn't he take it. Well, his answer was because I was kind enough to offer the first shot at what he wanted on my lease I deserved to shoot the trophy. He likes to describe it as good karma, since I wasn't being selfish. Since then, we've each taken some nice deer hunting together but I just wanted to share my first buck!
Shot at 30 yards with my Lyman Great Plains Hunter .50, 80 grains of Pyrodex and a TC 275grain MaxiHunter.
