I tested a whole bunch of store bought ammo in my new/used mini. It likes M193 stuff. The m193 was some of that new guatemalan stuff and the winchester was the little white box that was marked "5.56", 20 rnd box. Both of the selection had the little cirlce/crosshair on the case, so after reading the "ammo oracle" i have determined that these are m193 or thereabouts.

But even this ammo is expensive to buy now. I would like to reload to these specs. Here is what I know, The powder is close to h335 and it uses a 55 grain bullet, and has military primers. Does anyone know exactly what powder and how much? Or does anyone know the whole recipe?

One other thing, can the commercial 223 brass take the higher pressures like the 5.56 brass? I know the 5.56 cases are thicker to take the higher pressures. But will the normal 223 brass be able to take m193-like powder charges?

I am glad that my gun likes m193.

Anyway, thanks.

I like using H335 for reloading 55 gr bullets for my mini. I don't think anyone knows for sure, maybe a trade secret. Check velocity on a chrono and try to get the H335 load to match.

Commercial loads are almost impossible to duplicate. The powders use in factory ammo are not available to the reloading public. Your best bet is to start from scratch doing your own load work up. What ever you do, Do Not try and identify a powder by it's weight and or looks. This is very very dangerous. If your rifle likes the 55gr bullet that's a good start. Pick up some H335 and maybe a few others in a similar burn rate and work up some loads.

Good Luck and be Safe.

You can find the Army ammo data sheets here.....http://www.biggerhammer.net/manuals/I don't reload so I can't offer any other information.

DFBonnett that is an excellent resource. The link was not working but I figured it out, http://www.biggerhammer.net/manuals/, this one should work.

Thanks for your replys,

I ended up using 27 grains of H335 and m193 55grn bullets with a col of 2.25. My load book said this would give 3193 fps out of a mini 14 with an 18 inch barrell. I shot some today and they are pretty hot, much hotter than the 55 grn wolf that i shot today. But my reloads shot every bit as accurate as the guatemalan stuff that my gun likes. Now, I like shooting the hotter stuff.

I also found out that I am not saving very much money when I reload. I save mabey 3 dollars per hundred rounds when compared to buying guatemalan outright.

I also read on ammo oracle that olin ball wc844 is "generally" what is used and that h335 is very close to it.
