A couple of years ago I decided I wanted a go everywhere rifle. Something that could be used for hunting, a rainy day rifle when I didn't want to bring a woodstocked gun in the woods, a backup rifle if the primary hunting gun went down, self-defense gun, varmint rifle...just a Do-All...and this is what I came up with... After looking at all the calibers the one settled on was .308 Winchester. The rounds can be begged, bought or stolen anywhere in the world, recoil is mild, effectiveness on game and humans great, one of the most accurate rounds going and rounds avalable to take anything from mice to moose. A bolt gun was chosen as it can be used to hunt anywhere, is more PC in areas that may frown on a military looking semi-auto and is generally a lot more accurate and shootable than most semis. The first gun tried was a Savage Scout...the stock was flexible junk and it would not feed through the DBM. The magazine was not the problem. It was the POS stamped metal pieces that are supposed to hold the magazine rigidly in place...so back it went. Then I found what looked to be an unfired Remington M700 Youth/synthetic with a 20" barrel for very cheap money. The stock was lengthened by sliding a Limbsaver slip-on recoil pad over the stock pad. What is nice about this is that it works great in the summer when you have few cloths on but when hunting in freezing weather the pad slipps off and the LOP becomes perfect for heavy clothing. A B-Square M700 Scout Scope mount added and used Leupold Scout Scope purchased. A Weaver base was put on the rear receiver bridge and a New England Custom Guns clamp-on peep sight installed. It matches up perfectly with the white bead front sight. For long range work I lucked into a Redfield 3-9 Widefield with the AccuTrac reticle and balistic drop compensation knob...for a whole $68.00 at the same store I found the rifle and the used Scout Scope...for $150.00 with the Styer rings still on it. The Redfield was put in a set of Weaver 4x4 extended rings and the occular bell being the tv tube type just clears that scout mount... An Uncle Mike's Mountain sling completes the package. The target is from 200 yards using the 3-9 scope....Bobhttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/RJM52/030306RemingtonAll-Around008.jpghttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/RJM52/030306RemingtonAll-Around007.jpghttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/RJM52/030306RemingtonAll-Around006.jpghttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/RJM52/030306RemingtonAll-Around005.jpghttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/RJM52/030306RemingtonAll-Around010.jpghttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/RJM52/030306RemingtonAll-Around011.jpghttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/RJM52/030306RemingtonAll-Around014.jpghttp://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b77/RJM52/030806range003.jpg
