I don't recomend less lethal projectiles to anyone for home defense unless its a Taser with 12 ft leads (LE gets 25 ft leads).
It just starts to many civil attorney's mouths wattering for my tastes.
Besides, under stress do you think you could operate that thing at night? Remember, you have to make sure that you don't accidentally chamber a live round and blow yourself up by accident.

I would say that if you use less then lethal ammo then the courts would eat you alive and claim that you didn't feel your life was in danger. I've always heard if your gonna shoot then shoot to kill and not mame.
that is a pretty crazy idea, lol i like it. but like others said if i need to fire a gun in self defence, i want to make sure the threat is taken care of. if someones on pcp that golf ball wont do @#$%. that would be awsome to take golfing. i wish that was allowed, i think you just made a new sport.:) koodos for an awsome idea.

Maybe I shoulda put a shmiley next to that subject line. . .I wouldn't use it for home defense either. I just think it's funny as crap and am curious about how much that would hurt. Maybe we'll see it in Jackass 3 or something. . .
P.S. Who thinks up these things?

I dont see a need for less than lethal in home use. I am very curious about the specs of that set-up though :)

I see it, I like it, would try it just for fun. For home protection, on the other hand, I would never use less than lethal. Smells like a Civil Suit just waiting to happen.
Yea. I wouldn't use less than lethal force. You don't know what you're up against and if you miss, how fast can you reload that thing? I don't think that would disable the BG depending on the POI.
I wonder how that golf ball would bounce if it hit a hard enough surface.

I've seen them a lot before. If you point them straight up in the air and launch it, the ball will totally vanish from sight and then it comes down but watch out!
It would probably feel about like getting hit with a baseball bat except without breaking your bones (most likely not at least).

In my Navy days, we ET's handled the phone line for UNREPS at sea. We used the M14 rifle with cup-style launcher for a big black rubber bullet, to carry the initial light line to the other ship. Once we were receiving, and a co-worker stood exposed when they fired. Hit him in the chest, and knocked him on his kiester! We congratulated the shooter on his accuracy. :D The kid was unhurt, but sore.
If a badguy breaks into my house at night, I make three basic assumptions:
1) He knows I'm home (my car in the driveway).
2) Therefore he's armed.
3) He means me no good.
So, my shotgun and Colt M1911A1 are loaded to kill . . . ;)

All I have to say is this. I do not believe in less than lethal products, as they are completely misnamed. The should be called "Begging to loose a very expensive lawsuit" products. I also include tasers in that group. Tasers are for the neighbor's cat. If you break in to my house the only less lethal thing that will happen is when I politely ask you to leave, while racking my 870.
That would so help my golf game though...........:D

Here's a thought, and pardon me for being slightly off topic.
I read in a rifle magazine about a certain Chinese guy who ran a butcher shop in a city somewhere. I forget where. Basically, a bad guy broke in at night while he was in the back, wrapping up some meat for the night, about ready to go home. His brother was nearby, and drilled the intruder with hollow point .40 cal bullets. Intruder dies. Happy ending, right? Wrong. The family of the thug tried to sue. In court, their lawyer used the argument that hollow points are meant to do more damage and are thus cruel. The Chinese man had to defend himself in court because he didn't use fmj bullets. What a joke huh! He won though, in court. Hooah!

What, no burglar chow mein? Hell, they were wrapping up meat, anyway.

Ummm
At my house the "less lethal" defense is 3 dogs charging the door. They are backed up by my wife with her 44spl and 12ga O/U. Once (if?) they are past those 2 layers, than I get my turn.
BTW, the neighbors go on alert when the dogs sound off, and will begin responding when the first shot is fired.
Did I mention that, for some reason, we don't have a lot of crime in my neighborhood?

My less leathal is that #4 shot in the chamber as opossed to the #00 in the magazine

That will make you think twice the next time you eat at a Chinese place, huh bro?

Dan,
There's no need of that. I should've worded that differently. I was talking about hiding the evidence, not implying that Asians would feed you anything other than food. I'm sure they're sick of the stigma, too. Let's just let this die right here, okay?

There sure is a lot of PC BS and hand wringing around here, now.
Sick of the stigma??? Who cares if they are?
I love cats - they taste like chicken

Given the speed and distance, the dog probably wouldn't even be interested in going such a distance, unless of course you find one that can launch squeaky toys. :)

Did anybody see the original jackass movie where johnny knoxville gets a cop of some kind to shoot him in the stomach with a rubber bullet out of a 12ga?
The only thing i'd like to see more than that is one of those golf balls in the nads. Now thats entertainment. :)

Marlin, go with the Lab. Dobies are too damn bitchy and moody - too much like a woman.

At least with the dog, you can just shoot them.
anyone know where i can get one of these for my Sporter? Can you list a few places, thanks.
What I want to know is under the stress of fearing for your life while using less-than-lethal "ammo" how would you go about putting multiple golf balls down range with efficiency? You may have multiple assailants to consider. Would you carry a 9 iron as your backup? Seriously less than lethal has no place in home defense. As stated, the lawyers will circle the wagons.

NYMini, I'm with you - someone enters my home uninvited, one of us is going out on a board.

If a guy invades your home, and you have to shoot him, why do you want him to get back up????
IF...I was gonna use less than lethal, this would be my choice.
However, like the other guys said, if you come into my house uninvited it's gonna get ugly!

You want less then leathal, just sit and watch, as the intruder does as they please, otherwise, take whatever you have at hand, and do your damndest to kill the #$#$. that is my advice, dont waste your money on toys. When I level a weapon on some one, the last thing they will see or hear, is the flash of gunpowder, and the earth shattering ka-boom.
