Well the standard holiday layoffs have occured where I work(ed), thank goodness ol' scrooge is still alive and well, wouldn't want us working stiffs to have a happy holiday now would we? we might get uppity or something after all. ;)

So with lots of time on my hands I've been re-loading and working on sighting my mini 14 in at 100 yds.

I feel comfortable shooting a non-scoped mini at 50 yds, but decided to get out of my comfort zone and try 100.

Long story short, I feel more and more confident that mini accuracy problems are more shooter than gun.

I saved 4 targets as an over view of my day, the largest group was 5.75", next was 3.5", third was 2.5" and the best was an amazing 1.5" group using only sights at 100 yds, I used my old stock of "cheap" wolf 62 gr. .223 and varied between my red dot and iron sights, niether sight proved better accuracy wise just basic pattern differences were noted.

I am starting to quit blaming my guns for my accuracy problems and work on my own accuracy problems because 6 months ago I was lucky to get a 6" group at 50 yds when I first purchased the gun.:D

Good groups. An old man once told me "its more the indian than the arrow" when talking about mini-14s and thier accuracy. I think he's about 85 percent right. How about a little pictures? Another thing, wolfs rep is worse than the wolf ammo really is, although i never expected it to be that good.

Safe shooting,
Chuck

Well I went to the range this morning with some re-loads instead of the old wolf stock and did a lot worse. I managed to group between 4" and 8" with sights at 100 yds. I was very accurate occasionaly hitting the bullseye several times, but was very inconsistant with my groupings. Shooting outside in sub 40 degree weather can make you a little shaky.

Should try some Guatamalan Surplus or Radway Green. Those groups you shot before, they start big and get smaller? Maybe its settling into the stock or something.

My groups usualy start small and get wider, I think this more an issue of my impatience than anything else, I usualy start messing with the sight adjustments and start shooting faster with less time to steady myself.

I am the same way with my 1911 pistol at the range too.

Shimming works great, I did that with my mini using brass stock. I later decided to bed it myself and was not a big deal to do.
