View Full Version : Barrel Shroud do I want one?

I am hoping someone with experience can help me with this. I like the looks of a barrel shroud like the one made by Eagle, but will this do anything to hurt my accuracy or will it help.

I dont want to put somthing on my gun for looks if it will make the gun shoot worse. But if the only thing it will do is keep me from touching a hot barrel I would like to add it to my mini.

Also is Eagle the only one making a barrel shroud to fit the Mini 14?

The only shrouds I've seen are just more or less cosmetic look on the barrel. I don't think they are stiff enough to affect the accuracy.

There are 2 custom-made shrouds out there that are more expensive and must be fitted onto your gun. One is by Clark Custom Guns, the other is by Accuracy Systems Inc. Both of these will make your rifle a 1" shooter at 100 yards. Both cost in the neighborhood of $300 installed, and you have to send your rifle to them. Both will make your barrel look almost like a bull barrel. Most people I know who have installed one are glad they did, but all comment that it makes the gun noticeably heavier (with these custom ones).

Thanks,

I dont think I will getting the custom shroud anytime soon. Maybe eventually I might invest in one.

But I may get a cheaper one like the one made by Eagle and sells for around $40-50 as long as it wont effect the accuracy in a negative way. I just like the looks of them and it would bridge that gap of barrel in between the gas and flash suppressor.

Hi RaccoonRough. I have a Clark GBS like the above mentioned for sale much cheaper than a new one. See the parts for sale section of this forum. This is a quality made component and not one of those "heat shield" ghettofabulous things. :)

I bought the Eagle shroud, but then couldn't get my front sight off! (See Thread on this forum). I like the quality and look, and it's only for looks (and to protect your hand from a hot barrel) and I'm sure won't help accuracy, and I doubt would hurt it.

I decided to send my mini to Gundoc for some work including a barrel shortening, so now I don't need to get the sight off, but I've asked him to see if he can find a way to engineer the shroud into the shortening, as I like the look! It may not be possible, but we'll see.
