Anybody Shoot 5.56 SS109 (M855) green tips in thier mini? What the rifle twist of a 580 series. What weight bullet does it require?

Yes, I have and my Mini likes it. The twist on a 580-series is still 1:9, but you'll have to test and see what yours likes best.

Theoretically, that twist should favor bullets over 55 gr., but various posters have reported that their favorite ammo ranges from 40 gr. up to 69 gr. and everything in-between.

You really have to test and see what your gun will do with X-brand ammo and X-gr. They each have their own character to them but that is part of the fun of it. You just have to compare and see.;) Don't forget to clean your gun when you switch to give best comparision, shoot 4 or 5 groups with each brand and wt.

So far my rifle likes Winchester 55gr ballistic silvertips the best, but thier pretty expensive. That is the heaviest bullet ive shot. The military green tips have a different sound to them, are they a hotter load or something. What gr are they?

They have thicker cases than commercial and build up higher pressure with the same loads. Heavy bullets don't always = more pressure. Depends on type of powder used with gr/bullet.

Is the series the 1st three #s in the serial #? If so, mine is 186. Does that mean mine is 1 in 10"? Also, it is safe to shoot the M855 ammo from my Mini?

Thanks in advance. - johnny

The milsurp ammo is loaded somewhat hotter. Also, M855 is 62 gr.
