Anyone have a Remington 597 in .17 HMR? If so, can you give me a few pros and cons? I was looking at the LS-HB.

Anyone know of other choices for an autoloading .17 HMR?

I had one of these a year or so back and sold it to finance another project. It was an excellent shooter. I was consistently knocking down birds and rabbits at the 200 yard + mark. I was using a Bushnell rangefinder so I can confidently confirm the distances. Windrift from those sorts of distance was a factor but one that with a little practice could be easily calculated. I will buy another as money allows.

Thanks for the info killer. I have just begun to start looking at these. I really wish Ruger would make an autoloading .17 HMR.

A friend of mine has a 10/22 with a .17 Aguero bull barrel on it, I believe he did the conversion himself.

I fired it and found it to be very accurate to 100 yards, but after that the wind drift was definitely a factor.

Those little necked-down .22 lr cases are neat!

Yes you can make a .17 m2 from a 10/22 but what I want is a .17 HMR. Anyone heard of a 10/22 Magnum being converted to .17 HMR?

or you could just wait for this......

Scroll down towards the bottom.

The thing I should mention about the 597 is you need to be meticulous about cleaning the mags especially. Misfeeds and jams will occur if this is not done. Remington has replaced the plastic mags with an alloy mag, which has improved things but still pays to be particular.

Hope this helps.
