View Full Version : .375 Winchester in Contender
Can anybody share their experiences with the .375 Winchester cartridge in the Contender? I'm considering the .375 or .45-70.

I have used the 375Win, but prefer the 45-70, JMO George.

Well I have both but to be truthful I have never sht the .375 yet. The 45/70 is very accurate and just alot of fun to shoot. I have a 21" S/S Carbine barrel in the .375 Winchester like new in box I'm selling if your interested. I'm asking $250.00

I bought a used 21" barreled Contender carbine in 375 Win in Dec with 220gr Hornady bullets and H322 powder I was getting 2000fps and clover leaf 50 yard groups.
Can't say what it would do at the longer distances because I never tried.
I have now had the barrel sent down to SSK Ind and it has been rechambered to 375JDJ my plan is to shoot 260gr Accubonds @ 2250fps - 2300fps (hopefully) which would give me with a 160 yard zero 2" high at 100 yards, 2"- 3" low at 200 yards and 16" - 17" low at 300 yards where it would still have a velocity of appr 1775fps to 1810fps.
That is from a 21" factory tapered barrel well if the ballistic calculator I use works...

I have a 16 in 45/70 in a contender and a 375 JDJ 14 in long in contender and a 444 15in in an encore, all are a lot of fun, and all are pretty accurate with the right loads. All are plenty of gun for most hunting. While they cross each other in performance each has its good points, and it would be hard to decide whitch to part with of I had to. Alex

My TC Encore 375 winchester recoils about the same as my Remington 270 Win. rifle.
I shot lengthwise through a 175# feral hog with the 375 round.
It's a very effective caliber!
