OK, this one is mostly gundoc's creation
Gundoc did:
shorten barrel to front gas tube
perma mount AK74 muzzle break
That was the really hard part!! I have no idea how he gets the perma pressed parts apart on these guns and his prices are REALLY inexpensive compared to what they wanted locally to do this ($200 to just cut the barrel back locally).
I did:
TAPCO compliance parts
TAPCO stock with scout mount handguard
US made 10 round FIXED mag (making it legal in CA :) )
Techsight 200 series
match  (skinny) fornt sight for better sight picture.
AK type bolt handle
I also have a knock off aimpoint red dot scope that is not mounted in the pics. Believe it or not, you can still use the iron sights because the TAPCO handguard has a channel just for that!!
I think of this as my CA compliant "assault rifle" SKS.
It would be much better with the custom made detachable mag system available from these guys.
Eddited to add the forgotten AK type bolt handle

Not in this state though

Very nice, ain't Gundoc the heat? I just sent him my 182 Mini. I really like what you did with the SKS. I might set one of these up for my brother in El Centro. Looks great!

P.S. Have you ever seen one of these rifeltech mags w/the adapter. They get a bad rap on another board, I've always been curious until I got the "M". Just wondering.

What red dot? That SKS has no optics mounted.

I'd say the worst part about those is the price. Possibly illegal, too.

What? You mean to tell me that someone would sell an illegal mod for the SKS?:D
I guess I was thinking if you went the 922r compliant route as Gunrun has, then you'd be OK in the "free states". Anyway, Blender, have you ever seen these? I know they get the bum rap over at that other site. I personally agree on the price, and I have trouble buying something that pricey without knowing more info.

From what I understand...the mags work well as long as YOU BUY THE RIGHT ONES. Make sure you CALL THEM and order the correctly fitted mag. The fit them to the alby, chicom, russian, etc... before they leave the factory.
As far as the scout rail and resulting red dot position, I think its fine. I just mount it in the farthest rearward position. Its actually just about where my left hand naturally grips the forearm so it adds to the ballance of the rifle in my left hand.

Oh. there's plenty of SKS accessories that, when used on their own, are illegal. Like adding any hi-cap to a Chinese, when done on it's own.
I've never talked to anyone who used one of those magazines, though, so I know nothing except that they cost too much.
Think about it: the going rate for any SKS other than a Yugo:rolleyes: (sorry Yugo guys) is ~$200. Add those magazines and adaptor ($85 for anything bigger than a 10 rounder), and you're REALLY close to what you could get a SKS M for, and just use regular AK47 mags.

I like it alot. Enough-so that I'm contemplating ordering the same stock and break.
How does it shoot now, in comparison to its prior configuration?

WAAAYYYYY better. I'm sold on them.
The only problem is that you need a socket wrench to remove the pistol grip before you can take down the rifle. You can fit a small one in the grip though ;) works fine. Wrap it in a rag you can use to wipe down the gun and you're set.
