Sex scandals involving politicians are as old as Thomas Jefferson, but the outcome seems to depend on which party you represent. In recent years, for the most part, Democrats have been able to survive their sordid escapades while Republicans have paid with their political lives.

Simple.

Republicans are always holding themselves up as "morally superior" to Democrats, so when they get busted for being just as corrupt (or more so), they pay the higher price for their hypocrisy.

Plus being against gay marriage, constantly touting Christian values while pandering to the religious right, taking a hard line on drugs and alchohol, and pushing for faith-based government.

When you try to convince folks that you are holier-than-thou, you better not get caught sinning.
