I know I've posted this here before, but this is just to refresh everyone's memory:

Now, here's his latest response to my email pertaining to HR 503:

Dear John:

Thank you for contacting to voice your concern regarding H.R.503, an amendment to the Horse Protection Act. I appreciate hearing from you and I value your opinion on this matter.

H.R.503 was introduced by Rep. John E. Sweeney (R-NY). The bill was passed on September 7, 2006. I was one of 263 Members of Congress to vote in support of this important piece of legislation. I believe that the inhumane treatment of animals needs to end, and this bill takes the correct steps to ending mistreatment of horses.

This bill amends the Horse Protection Act to prohibit the shipping, transporting, moving, delivering, receiving, possessing, purchasing, selling, or donation of horses and other equines to be slaughtered for human consumption. Additionally, the Secretary of Agriculture has the capability to seize a horse in order to test and/or evaluate the horse in regards to its treatment and the handling of the horse. The Secretary of Agriculture would evaluate whether or not the horse is being treated in such a way that violates the given law in regards to purchasing, shipping, selling, transporting, and even possessing horses for personal human consumption.

Again, thank you for weighing in on this issue and please continue to contact me on other issues of concern to you. Also, please visit my website at http:///www.house.gov.johnlewis/ for more information.

Sincerely,

John Lewis
Member of Congress

I HAD to send this idiot a response to his email:

The bottom line on this issue is that the horses were not being treated inhumanely. This was a "feel good" measure pushed through by horse owners so that the government would subsidize euthanizing the animals, and the horse owners wouldn't have to feel bad that they sent their horses in for slaughter when the time came (reference section 11 of HR 503 for this).

There is nothing wrong with humans consuming horse meat, and there never has been; humans have consumed horses for as long as the two have coexisted.

This bill is just another way the government is infringing on the rights of its people.

I challenge you, and others in your position to actually read and understand what you are voting on, as you have demonstrated, again, in this situation thet you neither read nor fully comprehend everything you vote on.

Thanks,
Unfortunately, his mail server would not accept this email from me

I mean, if someone wants to eat a horse, by God, they should be able to eat a horse.

I also saw that he voted to give himself a raise recently, which did not pass.

This guy is genuine garbage, and has been GA's 5th district congressman since 1989.

Do you think he is blocking you, or perhaps on that day his box was full?

I have a lot of respect for John Lewis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lewis_(politician)). He's a great American. Obviously he's wrong about gun control, and the statement, no doubt written by an aide, that "guns are rarely useful for self defense" is, of course, irrelevant and even incorrect.

Today's great political dilemma is the growing divide between the Democrat and Republican parties, that all too often forces a choice between such issues as the right to life and the second amendment right to keep and bear arms, and the right and need to be free of the oligarchical interests to whom today's GOP is entirely beholden. I have made my choice, that the latter leads to irretrievable tyranny far faster than the Democrats' slouch towards gun confiscation. Neither is tolerable, and for that reason it is my earnest hope that one of the major political parties can be restored to sanity.

I, frankly, don't understand how you can have much, if any, respect for any elected official who does not respect people's rights, especially when they have done no good.

I mean, seriously, what good has John Lewis done while serving office?

Judging by his actions, I'm sure he and Nagan would be friends.

And the gun control thing is just part of it. Did you read HR503? He voted in favor of that. It's another right of Joe Citizen that has been stripped away. Granted, I think the demand for horse meat in this country is small, but the government has NO RIGHT to tell me what I can or cannot eat. Period.

Not to mention, John Lewis is a member of a racist organization, the Congressional Black Caucus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congressional_Black_Caucus).

No, this man is scum, and of the worst manner; he's a politician.
