3: tends to be ideological at the expense of applying the lessons of history.

Most "neocons" don't fully grasp the limitations of exercising military power, possibly because most of them haven't been in the armed forces. Most critically, they fail to understand the limitations the current administration places upon their grandiose schemes. They would have had a greater chance of success during the administration of Bush Sr. or Clinton, but there was no "Pearl Harbor like event" to galvanize public support for their schemes before 2001. Now they dream of democratizing the middle east, but are trying to do so from within the most polarizing administration in recent history. Not a good basis for such a scheme, at all.

`And only one for birthday presents, you know. There's glory for you!'
`I don't know what you mean by "glory",' Alice said.
Humpty Dumpty smiled contemptuously.
`Of course you don't -- till I tell you. I meant "there's a nice knock-down argument for you!"'
`But "glory" doesn't mean "a nice knock-down argument",' Alice objected.
`When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone,
`it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'
`The question is,' said Alice, `whether you can make words mean so many different things.'
`The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty `which is to be master -- that's all.'
