What is with all these labels?

Im seriously confused by all these terms. What is a Neo COn? In the case od Bill Oreilly stated in another thread for example, his statements mirror those made by many Liberals. So why isnt he just a Liberal?

The sentiments of most liberals just follow the teachings of Karl Marx. So why do we need all these different labels? Why isnt marxism good enough.

Arlen Specter marxist or some other crazy term?

Are we just coming up with new labels so we can group people and make it easier to disagree with a group than actual ideas?

I see the policies they they advocate. Many of these are marxist policies.
But the people everyone is calling Neocons these days are pushing much of the same crap. So what is with all these new labels?
I thought it may be interesting to see what attributes people must see in a person to give them one of these labels?
