Doc,
Is it possible to install a real M14/M1A Flash Suppressor on a Mini? Here are a couple I found on eBay:

Thanks,

I think it is. The original castle nut was 5/8x24 tpi, I'm pretty sure. new castle nuts are running about $10. Basically your looking at a standard threading job and install, and the barrel can be shorter if you like. The thing I would be concerned about is the correct sight height relation between the front and rear.

What about the alignment groves on the inside of the FS? I would thing that would prove to be a problem.
Well that may be. I didn't really consider that. I will look at a few barrels here and see whether it would be better to groove the barrel, or remove all but one or two of the alignment spines.
Thanks, Dorkface for bringing that up. At 2:00 am I wasn't thinking about those.

No problem. Every once in a while I prove to be mildly useful...
I was daydreaming about this also, since I have a SAI commercial FH sitting around after picking up a GI example for the M1A. I would think all that weight might be good out there. Gotta find a castle nut and my caliper thingy...

I have converted Mini 14 to ust the M-14 gas system. this also included installing an M-14 flash hider and front sight assembly. I do not now recall if the mini Barrel is of the proper Diameter for the installation. I was using Shilen Barrels at the time and was turning them to suit the dimensions I needed. I can tell you that the front sight height was not a problem at all. for cutting the splines, I used a woodruff key cutter in my mill.
