Because of the recent Labor Day holiday, you might have missed an important alert that GOA sent out on August 29.

The House Judiciary Committee is getting ready to vote on H.R. 1415 -- a gun grab bill that was introduced by New York anti-gun liberal Carolyn McCarthy (D).

The anti-gun forces are asking their members to call their Representatives in favor of McCarthy's bill, so it's important that your Congressman hears from you.

Moreover, GOA is the only gun lobby on Capitol Hill opposing McCarthy's bill -- which is all the more reason that your action is crucial!

1. Please urge your Representative to oppose HR 1415, the McCarthy gun grab bill.

2. Take the action recommended below and then circulate this alert to your pro-gun friends and family.

3. If you need more talking points on the bill, please visit the GOA website at http://www.gunowners.org/a082906.htm to read our August 29 alert.

You can visit the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your Representative a pre-written e-mail message. (The system will automatically select one of the two messages below, depending on whether your Rep. is a member of the Judiciary Committee.) And, you can call your Representative toll-free at 1-888-355-3588. The non-toll free number is 202-225-3121.

This is my mod letter concerning this issue:

Sir the below statement is a pre-written letter. However, it states my concerns. After last year's Katrina anyone who does not see the need to allow us average Americans the right to protect themselves will find that what little I can do to remove them from office will be applied.

I'm only one voice, but I'm stating clearly to you, Sir, protect my Rights.

Thank you!

(Pre-written letter)

I am very concerned about an anti-gun bill by Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, HR 1415. This bill spends nearly $1 billion dollars to further prop up the unconstitutional Brady Law, but there is no authority for the Federal government to do this under the Second and Tenth Amendments.

I urge you to OPPOSE H.R. 1415.

I would appreciate hearing whether you plan to oppose this bill. Gun Owners of America will keep me informed about any votes on this dangerous measure.

GOA argues that the bill will allow for an enormous data dump from the states to the federal government -- "laying the infrastructure for even more gun control in the future."

How far would these folks go in removing my Rights? Well let's take a look at what is currently happening in England where guns are not allowed unless air power.

A&E doctors are calling for a ban on long pointed kitchen knives to reduce deaths from stabbing. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4581871.stm) What is next? Forks? This is not a perfect world by any means, and it never will be. Until it is I demand the Right to defend myself with whatever it will be: a gun, a knife or a fork.

I don't have a problem with keeping or at least try to keep guns out of the hands of the wrong people, but frankly I have a problem with the following quote:

According to Gun Owners of America, the bill is "anything but harmless" because it will make available to the federal government millions of state records "that could include state tax returns, employment records, library records, DMV, hospital, mental health and some misdemeanor records -- all in the name of making sure you're not prohibited from owning a gun."
