I picked up a Deerfield this week and shot it yesterday. Surprisingly, it's a tack driver. I was putting everything in the same hole at 45 yards with the flip up sight and I'm not normally a very good shot. It seems to be very similar to my mini-14. Why is this gun so accurate and my mini not?

I have a 96/44 lever-action. Love it. It's the same way, up to about 150 yards.

One reason is the big, slow .44 Mag doesn't heat up the barrel right away like the .223 does. Plus the .44 barrel is bigger diameter.

I've been wanting a Deerfield myself. Does it come with the integral scope rings?

My old tube feed .44 was a tack driver out at a 100 yards, sold it in the mid 80's, should have kept it.

Oh, how I wish there were hi-cap mags for the Deerfield! :(

Talk about a near-perfect trunk gun! :)

I'm not sure how reliable hi-caps would be with the rimmed cartridge. The 10/22 aftermarket mags are all known for being unreliable or working well in one gun but not another identical gun.
