Been reading through many post on the storm carbine. No one has really answered my one simple question? Just how reliable is this thing? Can it be carried in rain, mud or dust and still function will no cleaning? How about simply shooting it some each week and then putting it up with out cleaning? Simply is it in the AK or Uzi reliable group. Or is just another pretty black jam o matic like the Ar-15?

There was a guy ate the range a couple of weeks ago who had the 9mm version. He sure liked his. He said that the workings were basically a 92F housed in a rifle stock. It took 92F magazines. In that the 92F is a reliable pistol, I would expect the Storm to function equally well. If I were in the market for a 9mm or .40 carbine, however, I would probably go with one of Ruger's PC carbines with the synthetic stock. Just my preference.

if u want a pistol carbine i suggest the kel-tec sub 2000...cheaper in price, it folds in half, and is pretty damn accurate out of the box

The only bad thing I've heard about the Beretta Storm was the trigger and the price.

honestly i dont think the trigers that bad at all you just got to get used to it and being all plastic it dosnt get all to hot way less then my mini 14 does but that might be because of pistol vs rifle

I think it is a pretty reliable weapon. I recently shot one (9mm) and put about 700 rounds of cheap 9mm winchester stuff through it with a friend I visited out of state. I never got used to the more flexible parts like the trigger and charging handle. Its very functional and I really like the idea of the interchangeable magazines with the 92/96 series pistols. The little rail extension that kinda pulls outa the forend in kinda cool too. Just the right size and does not throw off the balance of the piece. Still, kinda expensive.

Hey long time no C. Are you recovering well from the accident?:)
saw a few at range when they first came out, not sure if the more recent guns are ok but the early ones have problems. If I recalled right I should have seen four, and:
-one has feeding problem, will not feed, jams; That one was a really early production.
-one has mag catch problem, the magazine drops out by itself, after every shot; Yes he was using factory Berretta mags. The problem was the mag catch did't go in deep enough. This problem won't show unless you fire the gun.
-one didn't have the metal insert in the top rail front attachment point, so the top rail screw was screwed directly into the plastic (not sure if the top rail installation is done factory or by the gun store, either way the metal thread insert was not in the hole). mount directly into plastic didn't last very long, the rail came out after a couple houndred rounds.
-One feeds, shoots, and performs great.
They are ok guns, but at that price.............. I would expect more

Yeah, second day back at work...light duty. I should proably update that thread and let folks know I survived.

I have had a cx4 for a couple years now, and I love the thing. I have had only 1 or 2 FTF and i think that has been because of the reloads that i was shooting. I dont know about dragging it through mud or rain storms, But I have read over on berettaforum.net (http://www.berettaforum.net) That a couple police agencies have had them at their ranges and have put 10k+ rounds (i think) through a couple CX-4's and not hardly cleaned them at all, and they are still workin. As for mine (mostly its my wife's), I usually dont clean it that often. After every 2-3 outing with it (atleast 100-200rds per trip) I will tear it down and give a good cleaning. But usually the barrel never gets that dirty and the action just needs to be wiped out with a rag. It aint no jam-o-matic, but i am not sure if its reliabilty is on par with an AK or UZI, from my experience anyway. This is one of those rifles that i would trust my life with (at a hundred yards or less anyway).

i noticed its a pretty clean shooting gun and i read in the beretta forums that the only problem was with the ejector on the early models or the mag drop problem wich they have a how to fix in the forum just a lil clip or sumthing you guys think with a modified clip limiting it to 5 rounds that it would make a decent varminter ?

the only downside to using it as a varminter, is that the effective range is really less than 100yds. You can push it out to 150, but the 9mm cartridge really starts to kinda lose it punch at those kinda distances and starts to become a little less accurate. Thats not to say that its accurate enough out at those distances, it definitely takes it on that. But i just wonder about terminal ballistics and all that crap. If you are looking for a varmint gun, an AR or some sort of varmint cal bolt gun would be alittle more effective IMO. This is primariy a <100yds defensive weapon. I mean would you take and MP5 out varmint hunting (exculding the 2 legged kind)? Probably not.

oh i got a mini 14 for varminting i was just curius bout the capabilties and its .40 s&w not a 9 mm
Its nothing like a 92F action except for the mag. The internals are like an uzi. It uses a telescoping bolt the surrounds the barrel. The barrel goes back all the way to the grip giving it short overall length and still having a legal 16" barrel. The trigger can be work on to get it down to about 5lbs.
