A quick note on the progress of the new design. Recall that the original design was scrapped due to temperature resistance issues. I have bench-tested some initial protoypes using the new damper, and it works as well, if not much better, than the original. This is very encouraging.

I am having field-grade protos made up, may have them as early as next week. If testing on actual rifles goes well, I can complete manufacture of the beta batch and begin to take orders.

More reports to come...

We will definitely be testing prototypes this weekend. Expect to hear some results by next week.

Shaking. With. Excitement. (Also, might be heat stroke from the weather outside).

Kkina, I tried visiting your accu-strut website, the only info I'm getting is:
<<Gone

is no longer available on this server and there is no forwarding address. Please remove all references to this resource. >>

There was a lot of interesting info listed there, is it gone for good or just down temporary? A google search didn't turn anything up either. Once your strut is ready for sale, will the point of contact be through here then? Also, what method of payment will you be taking ? ( Please don't say paypal only )

Unfortunately I just found out there is a problem with my ISP. I am attempting to correct the problem as we speak. Rest assured, Accu-strut is not going anywhere.

At this time I will probably be doing Visa and Mastercard. I will probably NOT be doing PayPal. I have heard bad things about their service, and understand they are anti-gun (people have had their personal accounts closed for ordering gun-related items).

Went through a session of testing the new design. Don't have good news, but not necessarily bad news. Neither of us had spectacular results, neither of us have shot rifles for 2 months, so it may have been operator error. We all know how quickly shooting skills degrade without regular practice. We will test again next weekend, see if we get better results.

Testing today was far more encouraging, though we're not done yet. Still a lot of flyers, but they were smaller and I feel it was mostly lack of practice (good reminder to keep your shooting skills sharpened). But I also saw for the first time at least two 0.75" groups!

There is one minor modification I want to test on the damper, and I will build those prototypes this week. This should give enough data to determine if I can start up production again.

The new design passed Temperature Resistance testing with flying colors. Can't wait to test the latest version at the shooting bench this weekend.

Tested the modified new version today. Although it was a little better, still had the same problem with a few great groups, but lots of flyers. It looked like a more radical revision of the damper system was going to be necessary. So I put back on the older gel-based strut, which worked well enough before, and it showed the same problems. That's when I noticed that my muzzle brake was completely loose!! This could certainly account for the inconsistencies.

After tightening the brake. the groups tightened up too. Several holes-touching groups, and one 4-shot group at just under 1/2 inch. A few flyers also, but they were probably me.

I will need at least one more range session for exact data, but I see no reason to wait. The new version is certainly no worse than the gel-strut, so at this point I've decided to release the current version into production.

Also, I may be at the practical limit for standard factory ammo, so I will soon be testing match-grade ammunition. That should be very interesting.

I'll take one!

4 shot group of 1/2 inch at 100 yards? DAYAM! What other mods does the test rifle have other than a muzzle brake?

Trigger job, gasblock retorque, bedded stock. The trouble has not been small groups, which do occur, but the numerous flyers, which have been occuring more frequently lately. I'm very curious to see how some premium ammunition performs.

Most companies that "guarantee" MOA have an * stating the use of premium ammo. There is no reason why you should avoid it in testing other than cost to you. What ammo have you been using for the tests?

Does this mean we can actually buy one soon? :D

I'm with Ryan.... Use match grade or even better, hand loads.
I believe the fliers will go away then.

Yep, agree with you guys. I've been using Federal AE 50 grain hollowpoints. It's pretty accurate for budget ammo, but now I feel I'm well outside its accuracy potential. I have a bunch of match grade ammo already purchased, I plan to spend most of Labor Day weekend testing it. In the meantime, production is going full steam.
