I need some help trying to identify the following rifle. It appears to be in a stock that came from a different rifle and the action seems a little strange to me. It has a very sloppy action that is very rough with many rough and unfinished tool marks. Any help would be greatly apreciated. The only marks it has no it are a symbol that looks like the tails of peacocks on teh bridge of the receiver and what looks like a winking eye at the end of the serial number. Though you guys (and gals) might like a good head scratcher.

That safety knob is unique to the Japanese Arasaka. As a guess I'm going to say that it's a Type 99, but it's possable that it is the earlier Type 38 (I'm not real familier with those).

Thanks for the info tailgunner!
That was the first thing that crossed my mind too. I am NOT familiar at ALL with the series of rifles though, but that safety knob really stands out as different.
It has some buba-gump type cheapo drill and tap on the barrel and appears to have had a military type sight at one time on the barrel.
Anybody else.
The egg-shaped bolt knob's another indicator of one of the Japanese Arisakas, too. Is the receiver ring ground down or, maybe have a stylized chrysanthemum? That would be the final identifier.

I think it has the chrysanthemum (but almost ground off) on the receiver. I thought it looked like peacock feathers since it was ground down so much.
I think you to gentlemen nailed it for me. Thanks for all the help.
