View Full Version : New Stevens models from Savage
Has anyone had any experience with the new 200 Stevens from Savage Arms? I just ordered one for my little girl that wants to go hunting with dad this year, 223 rem, she's only 9 yrs old. I seen they have dual pillar bedding and floated barrel with button rifling. Seems like an awesome buy for $325 new in box.

From what I hear, they are just as accurate as a Savage. I have a friend that works at a gun shop and he highly recommends the Stevens.

Yea I just got a Stevens 200 in .223. It does 1/2" @100yds. I had to wait 49 years to get mine.
Hey Zen, are you using factory ammo or handloads? I seen the twist is 1-9 so it should shoot the heavier bullets fine. I handload for my mini 14 so this shoot be a great shooter! I can hardly wait!!!:D I checked the Savage Arms web page and there is a variety of calibers to choose from for the same price.

The important parts are all the same as a savage. The stock leaves a little to be desired but thats and easy change. Just like a normal savage, they will shoot better then the person pulling the trigger! Enjoy!

Hey Zen, if that was at 100 yards, I'm more tempted to buy me one. With some hand loads that should improve considerably. My Mini-14 shot much better with 69 grain BTHP's. I sold it almost 10 years ago, but I think that was a 1 in 9 inch twist as well. With 55 grain projectiles, the best it would do was about 3 inches.

Isn't that the beef on the mini that it does over 2" @100yds? It's a semi-auto carbine though. Puts out lotta rounds very quick. The Stevens is a bolt rifle: more accurate but you gotta rechamber every shot. I guess it depends on what type of fun you're after.

good to see for once a rifle i want has great reviews, and also the caliber im seeking.I also seen on a bulletin board, dont remember if its this one or another but someone cut the barrell shorter and uses it as a trunk gun. I just dont know how accuracy was affected if at all it was affected.
I picked up my new Savage Stevens today and had it mounted with a Simmons 3x9x50 scope. Then we went out and tested it, the gun shop guy is a good friend of mine. He was using a Weatherby Vanguard 223, I think both rifles shot the same, he shot better than I did with my rifle, 1/2" at close to 100yds. He even did it with Wolf fmj 55 gr, I had some handloads but I was shooting from a gun rest and could not get real comfortable till 10 or more shots, then I seen my last group at 3/4". I adjust the trigger in the field using allen wrench and screw driver, that helped alot, it was too heavy at first. Its a very nice gun and I think it did just as well as the Vanguard.
