No new THREADS can be opened here, but you can continue to reply to threads moved here by Moderators.

Personally I`m sick and tired of the mudslinging on both sides of the political spectrum...but the new forum is a joke IMHO, since 9 of 10 threads that were moved there are closed anyway...so what`s the point?

(I bet 20 bucks that this thread will be closed and/or moved there too...who`s in?):D

I would be a fool to bet against you, sir. Apparently controversy is not allowed here.
And be careful not to criticize the Bush adminstration. Your thread will be hijacked with relentless personal attacks. It seems liberals are not welcome here either.

To every thing there is a time, and a place.

Personally, I think the solution Bill came up with to the recent flame plague makes a lot of sense.

What I don't like is when serious matters are trivialized with foolishness. One example of this is claiming something is said in jest, when it is obvious that there is an intent there to say something that could not be supported by evidence. That it is a "joke" lets the teller sit on the fence, leaning one way or the other depending on which happens to be more convenient at the moment. Another example is making one grossly inaccurate claim after another, a barrage of BS so to speak, that is impossible to refute because the nonsense is heaped on faster than it can be shovelled into the fact bucket.

If important things are to be discussed, they ought to be treated like they're worthy of rational discourse. if a joke is told about something of significance, that's controversial, it ought to be something that reasonable people would agree eases tension, not makes it worse. This is what I believe, because it is not good when our nation is divided so deeply right down the middle in a time of war. One thing I'll give the president credit for, he doesn't use divisive rhetoric. I'd like to see more people in this country, Democrat and Republican, liberal and conservative, follow his example. No, we won't get along. But we should conduct ourselves like civilized human beings.

I'm opening this thread back up, as long as it's rational.

What start as debates usually end up in mud-slinging here. And I personally don't want this board to be recognized for its contentiousness.

Any debates in Chit Chat that are held intelligently will be allowed. Any that get into mud slinging or personal attacks will be shut down and moved. Those that are just getting hot under the collar, but don't involve personal attacks, might be left open, will possibly be moved here.

I have a mailing list that's pretty dead right now, but has been running continuously for about 7 years or so, the M1-M14 list. Jim Smith and I held it to STRICTLY chat about the M1, M14/M1A, with some occasional M1 carbine and 1903 chat. No politics, no bad heat, just rational technical discussion, and it was very popular for just that reason.

If you want a place where you can scream and call people names or disparage lifestyles or whatnot, go fund it yourself. If you want to talk about guns, do it here. If you want to talk about miscellaneous stuff in Chit Chat, you can, but as soon as it stoops to low levels that wouldn't be acceptable in a friendly face-to-face, then I kick that thread to this area or worse.

I did, this is the first time I've been on for over a month. I checked in to see who won the Mini Shooting Contest I'm entered in, and stumbled in here...

I guess when I saw the word "dummies" I couldn't help myself...
