My last two posts seems to have caused a whole lot more controversy than I ever intended. I just thought they were funny, did not intend to start WW3! I think everyone of us needs to lighten up just a tad and stop taking everything so seriously. We only get to live once, and it is a shame if you go through life p/o ed at everybody!

Now, with the above in mind, here is another NY Times JOKE!

Sir, I wonder at your intentions.
You repeat your "joke", yet you do not refrain from your obvious bias towards what you percieve as an unfair press.
If it was a "joke" that you intended, I'm confident you could have found a less controversial subject.

It is a joke. Yeah, I do think the NY Times is a biased newspaper, but it is still a joke. It is a joke that conveys my feelings. I have watched guys on TV tell jokes about Bush and laughed my butt off, as long as I felt it was done as a joke, and not as a political stab at him. As for my intentions, they are to give everyone a laugh, and maybe make them think just a bit. People accuse conservatives of following the herd, and doing whatever Rush tells them, but it seems to me the liberals are even worse with the herd mentality.

Then I was correct in guessing you have an underlying agenda that involves taking a cheap shot at what you percieve as a "liberal" press.
Am I wrong in assuming that there are liberal-minded Perfect Union members other than myself? Why then, are there so many insulting and derogatory remarks made towards liberals here? It seems to be rather coarse and shows a lack of respect for those with differing political views.

You are proving my point. Learn to laugh at yourself sometimes. I have no intention of upsetting anyone on here. My jab was at the NY Times, no individual. I do think the NY Times is promoting an agenda instead of reporting the news. They want to be the news, instead of reporting it. Remember Jason Blair? I have no use for the Times, or other papers or networks that, instead of reporting the news, have to put their opinions in there and print it as news. I remember a few years ago there was a shooting at a law school. The shooter was stopped by a couple of the students going out to their cars and getting their own guns. Most every news outlet reported it as the two guys subduing the shooter, WITHOUT ever mentioning the fact that they went and got their own guns. IF that is not media bias, I don't know what is. You should read the books by Bernard Goldberg on media bias. They are eye opening. And Bernie Goldberg is not a conservative. I don't think he is a liberal either, he just seems to have a lot of good old fasioned common sense!

I understand. I just thought you would have learned something from the last thread you started regarding the N.Y. Times, and how it was closed due to the overly heated discussion.
But if you insist on remaining fixated on ridiculing and berating a newspaper, then please proceed, and I will not question your motives any further.

I'm going to wade into this thread...very carefully.

*Olds get out his soap box, and stands on it.*

Yes the NY Times as well as my home town newspapers are to the left. Then again, there is Rush who is to the right.

I believe that we as "thinking" adults owe it to ourselves to listen to both sides and then hopefully come up with a common sense center. That the day we allow a single point of view to dictate our direction is a day that is not much different than cattle going down a chute.

*Olds gets off of his soap box. Folds it back up. Places it back under the bed and goes on a Wifin' hunt.*

So a duck walks into a bar with a crocodile beside him...
The duck says to the bartender: "Do you serve reporters here?"
BARTENDER: "Well, of course we do! Bill Keller and Rupert Murdoch were here just last week."
Duck: Good, I'll have a beer and my friend will have a reporter."

I want to say just one thing more, and I will shut up. I agree with what you say, but I do want to point out that Rush Limbaugh is totally different from the newspapers and news media. Rush's show is about Rush's opinion, and he makes no bones about that. Same with Bill O'Riely on Fox news, his show is an OPINION show and not a news show. My problem is with shows that purport to report the news and insert opinions. That is all I am going to say. Feel free to rip this apart.

Sir,

I'm not into ripping or flaming. That is for gaming sites with want-to-be-little-minds who never figured out how to lift the seat on the toilet.

You are correct about Rush. However, we need to factor in that about 50 million people daily tune into his 3 hour show. Thus from this actuality his opinions are taken as fact. There is no doubt that Rush is a force for the Right.

Then there is that Bill (don't remember is last name as the moment) on cable TV. He is as far to the Left and Rush is to the Right. I listen to them both. Sometimes they really get my attention. Other times I just get a good laugh out of them.

Rush is more than happy to pass every one of his off-the-cuff remarks as the "truth," that is, until he gets caught telling an untruth, which happens almost daily, at which point he suddenly reverts to "entertainment" mode: "Just kidding, folks"

How convenient for him.

I don’t think anyone is seriously talking about restricting the first amendment. What we are talking about is a little personal responsibility on the part of the press. One must always remember that the purpose of the press is to sell advertising. It is the approval/disapproval of the people that controls them. The only legitimate legal control is that which allows individuals to filter what they and their children are subject to. Rating systems are a good example of legitimate legal controls. Note that rating systems do not restrict adults from knowingly viewing the material. On the other hand this type of satire lets the media know we are not pleased with them.
(and it’s funny)

By the way in case you haven’t read if for a while here it is.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
