Anyone on the board used the Remington 700 in 204? Most I've read talk about the CZ and Savage and virtually nothing on the Remingtons.

I'm getting ready to lay down some bucks and unless someone has something wonderful to say about the 700 it looks like I will be buying my first CZ.

I have 3 Remington varmint rifles now so I know about the quality etc and teach long range rifle shooting with them so familiarity with the system is not an issue.

Thanks.

Well, I will pipe up although its probably not what you are looking to hear.
I have a Savage with the 26" SS fluted heavy barrel, Accutrigger, benchrest stock, etc..etc...

One hole, 3 shot groups at 100 yards is the norm, with Hornady 32 Gr. Vmax bullets, at a sizzling 4500 fps... ( Yes, they have been chrony'd and no... those are not factory...)

The rifle is a pleasure to shoot, and I think it is a very sweet looker as well. I am not sure why you feel you need to discount the Savage.

I will comment on the CZ in OTHER CALIBERS... I have some friends that own CZ rifles... one is a .22, the other is a .17HMR. Both are exceptional shooters. In fact the CZ .17HMR will OUTSHOOT my Marlin heavy barrel
.17HMR hands down. (to the point that I was jealous... as *I* was the one shooting it, and I shot it better than my own rifle! )

I think you will find the quality of the CZ rifles to be decent, for the price. If you purchase one in .204, if it follows the trend of the ones I have seen and shot myself in other calibers it will not dissapoint you.

It is unfortunate in todays gun system that we cant take a rifle out for a TEST SHOOT before we buy it to see how well it will perfrom or if we will like the way it feels, or functions. I am sure if that were the case, there would always be a rack in EVERY gun store with the "rejects" that didnt shoot worth a damn... LOL

Good luck on your purchase... the .204 is a great cartridge.

GLShooterGuess you're a Remington fan, and thats not all bad. I recently purchased a Ruger VT in 204 for the heck of it and its a pretty good shooter so far. That and about 2/3rds the Rem cost!! Still haven't got the best load figured out for it but It'll do the 1/2" or less with 32 gr Vmax & Blitz bullets over different powders. I'm using Winchester brass and there in lies what I beleave is my main problem with consistancy.Savage would be my #2 choice. Gotta love the accutrigger. As far as the CZ is conserned, in my opinion, they are probably good rifles. I just have an issue with overseas anything if I have an equal or better option stateside.. Remingtons are great as well but what ever you get, you'll love the 204.LaterDDGETRDUN

My range master has a CZ in 204 Ruger. It is disgustingly acurate with minimal effort.
Sorry, I have no other experience with the other brands in this caliber. I can tell you that the CZ is a very good rifle though. My range master owns about 7 of them in various calibers. He used to be a Pre-64 winchester and remington 700 ONLY fan untill he "saw the light".
