I would like to get information on Texas and area gunshows/shoot-outs/get togethers, etc. I have seen a lot of Texas people on here as well as New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisianna, and Arkansas. I just havent seen this area get much use. Anyway, if you got any dirt to let me in on, please do. And if youre from Texas, please sound off.

I dont think we are related...at least not closely. My grandad says all Bighams are related so go figure.

lima-charlie stands for Loud and Clear.

I said it so much at one point in my life it is like the only thing I remember about the millitary.

"A millitary term used by the U.S.M.C. (and Navy). Meaning Loud and Clear for two reasons but the most important is that it sounds cool and official."

Hey Psytechguy! We've talked before. It has just been a long time. You work at UT, you were a Sandie when the school burned down...etc. I am glad to hear from you again and I hope all is well with you. Your old stompin' grounds are doing great!

You can't help where you were born, or where life has taken you. you will like Texas, just please don't try to change it. It is still about 1/2 or 2/3 as good as it once was. Trouble is, lots of people moved here "because they didn't like it where they where" then proceeded to try to change things here? (along with the fed's). They havn't ruint it yet, but they are still trying.
Proud Texan (wasn't born here, but "got here as soon as I could")

Well I will be a Texan in 118 more days. I bought 3 1/2 acres outside of Nacognoches, and will build a house.

Strange thing the post office doesn't determine a new address. It is 911 which is managed by the FCC. They had to GPS my survey markers, and then generate an address. Then they notified the Post office of my new address.

Another native born Texan here. Born and raised in Dallas, moved to NETX just south of Texarkana in 1979.

We told the realtor in 1979 we wanted 35 acres in the middle of nowhere. He succeeded beyond our wildest dreams! 13 miles either way to a city, 3.5 miles to the nearest mom & pop grocery/gas, 1/4 mile to the nearest neighbor (and sometimes that's too close), another mile to the next nearest neighbor. We stuck the house smack in the middle of the 35 acres of dense pine forest, 700' back in the woods off the road. Someday I may bush hog a path so I can see 100 yds and set up a range. Not much need for a long range gun out here. My S&W Model 28 works fine out to 100 yds and even better up close!

Hey, Leo! I spent a night in Bowie in 1966 thanks to a big thunderstorm between there and Dallas. A rural mail carrier was kind enough to give us a ride to a motel from the Bowie airport and even picked us up early the next morning and took us back to the airport. Can't beat hospitality like that! :D

Born and raised in TX, in the metroplex DFW area. Some of you might have seen the City of Allen on the weather maps. Right between Plano and McKinney. Transplanted to IL for some graduate schooling. I like the rural setting here in the southern tip of the land of lincoln. Not gonna stay, but I'll find something comparable somewhere else. No plan to move to TX anytime soon, but I'll be a citizen of the republic once again at some point. Soon enough I'm going to try to stake out a living in Orygun. A note to those heading to TX: If you are a fan of a true fall, where I'm from may not be right for you. Every year i've been very impressed with all the colors and change that happens here in Il. Spectacular, even just around the neighborhood. The TX climate in the region I'm from seems to be suitable for those from the north who are fed up with winter. We do get some ice and that tends to shut things down as texans don't know what to do with ice outside of soda, you might see some snow depending on where you are. Years ago I worked christmas day and it was 85 degrees. A little strange even for my hometown.

Collegeb,

I would venture to guess you are in Carbondale at SIU?

I went the other way...born and raised in Illinois (I lived all over the state, much time in Little Egypt) and came to Texas. I married a native Texan, got my green card and they let me stay.:D

The first thing I did when I came here to live as a civilian (spent a lot of time in Texas with USAF) was BURN MY FOI CARD.

I love Texas.

I'm going to the gun show. Have a great day.

Yup, i'm in Carbondale. It's a lot like Denton, TX where I had been living for a few years before my move here. And you're right again, I'm going to SIU. I'll be done in one more semester. I'm thinking Oregon is going to be my next residence. I need to make sure they don't have a waiting period. I'm so sick of having to wait! It's an even dumber idea than the FOID card.

I don't know what I'll do with my FOID card once I leave. Maybe have an extra special 4th of july celebration. I love fireworks!
