I recently tinkered with my winchester 69A which i inhereited from my grandfather.
I had a problem chambering a round 'cause everytime i tried to, the bullet would jam in the barrel. Only half of the bullet would go in and if i force it in with the bolt, the case bends slightly.
I tried chambering it manually and firing it. T'was ok.
I noticed the barrel wasn't throated. Do you think it has something to do with the problem of chambering?
I'm just planing to restore it and keep it for sentimental reasons .

Try loking at the top of the barrel, I have never heard of a 'shorts only' 69A, but I guess anything is possible. There is an awesome thread going on right now in another forum, might want to check it out. be right back with the link....

here you go, :D

If it chambers OK manually, I would guess the cartridge is feeding crooked for some reason.

Could be the bolt face, ejector, feed ramp, magazine, etc..

Try doing it very slowly and shine a light in there, watching for anything that might be mis-aligning the cartridge.
