Kid Couteau brought this to my attention. Interesting article.

Yep, I shoot Wolf steel in everything from my Mini-14 to my AK-47 to the .30 Carbine, never had a lick of problems with it. Even taken a few deer with the HP.
It's a little dirty and smelly, but not corrosive.
Don't own an AR though. ;)

The only issue I ever had with Wolf ammo was with their .45 acp rounds. I don't buy them anymore, but I like the .223, 7.62x39, 7.62x54 and even their 9mm.

markw76, Check and compare the rim of the Wolf .45 acp cases to the rims of American brass and other brass .45 acp cases. The abbreviated extractor cut on the Wolf steel case rim is harder on extractors. Wolf .45acp steel cases have been known to cause .45 pistol extractor failures, mainly with 1911 designs, I think. The steel .223 Wolf cases don't seem to differ much from brass cases in this respect. The .223 Wolf cases used to have Berdan primers and they were not recommended by Ruger for Minis, but now Wolf uses Boxer primers in their .223 steel case ammo.
Thanks, P. I have some old steel-cased WW2 GI ammo I can compare with. They're zinc coated I think and I wish I could find a whole can of it.

markw76, I am trying to keep my posts shorter, but I should have said where I got the info on the .45 acp rims. I also joined 1911.ORG and learned this bit of info from 1911 Tuner. Tuner has done a lot of tuning of .45s and has fired them as much as anyone else ever has, I think. 1911.ORG got me interested in accuring my own Colt .45 and the other gun fanatics on that forum are pretty sharp also about 1911s. I think the comparison I brought up only applies to Wolf steel cases. I have some .30 Carbine military steel cases and they are the same as brass cases, but I use them in a revolver, so it wouldn't really matter anyhow for them. Thats a point, huh?, the Wolf steel cased .45 ammo would have no extractor concern in a .45 acp revolver.
Oh, I understood you. I was just saying the US steel cases work like tops, and would be good to see exactly what differs. I doubt I would use wolf in my 1911. Maybe the 9 and the Carbine...no need to scrimp on posts, spread the joy!
