Sorry dude. I guess you're all alone for now here. I thought I'd post because I just noticed that you have like the last 3 posts on this thread without any action! Gotta be a new record.

Hey wheelgun, what do you think of the 17hmr barrels compared to a 22lr or 22mag. Which would you prefer?

I don't have a barrel in a rimfire round.I have heard good things about the 17 calibers but I had rather have the 22 LR .I have a 22 hornet barrel that is about the same as the 22 mag but I can save money reloading the hornet.

I was thinking about selling a pisol and buying a couple of barrels for my T/C and was thinking how much I like the versital 223 and maybe a 17hmr. I have a trip planned for South Dakota for pheasants and pdog shooting as well.

I think the 223 would be good for p dogs.I have a 14" and it is a good shooter. It was the 1st barrel I bought.

I have 1 contender frame with about 9 barrels-.22,.357,.44,.45/410(2), .30 carbine,.223,.30.30 &.35 rem. Also have Carbine stock. They all shoot pretty good. 3030 and 35 rem shoot the best. Also have a TC-83 with .243, .308 & .3006 barrels. Ireally like the set triggers.
Just thought I would let you know that there are contender shooters out there.

Well I currently do not have a Contender, but have shot-n-hunted with them for years. My favorite Chamberings for the Contender would have to include the following:

.22 LR Match (had a couple 14"ers over the years. just as accurate as any .22 LR Rifle)

.223 Remington (everyone that hunts with a Handgun that is into VARMINTS needs a .223. 40gr. Nosler Ballsitic Tips loaded with Alliant Blue Dot for a reduced velocity load of 2900 FPS, up to full song velocity at 3250 FPS when loaded with H-4198SC)

6mm T/CU (very versatile caliber from Varmints through Whitetails)

.30-30 Ackley Improved (one of the better long range Deer Calibers available for the Contender. 125gr. Nosler Ballsitic Tips at 2600 FPS with good accuracy.)

If I had to choose just 3, they'd be the .22 LR Match, .223 Remington, & .30-30 AI. If I had to choose just 2 they'd be the .22 LR Match and the 6mm T/CU.

them are good choices.I have two 30-30 tubes 10" and 14'.I have been thinking about a rechamber to the AI. David White will do it for 100.00.I have heard alot of good things about that round.

I love my .35 rem in a super 14". I have killed 7 deer with it, never a problem, super accuarate at 100 yards. My bro-in-law has a 30-30 barrel that he has take deer with, and a tack driving .223 barrel. Contenders are hard to beat for hunting pistols. My only complaint is my rear site has become sort of loose over the 16 years I have owned it. Lots of heavy loads through tho.

The Super 14 .30-30 AI Contender Barrel I had was an old .30 Herrett that I had rechambered by SSK Industries. I just recently checked SSK's web site and they still charge $75.00 for rechambering a T/C Barrel.

Things I have changed since I typed the above post. I just recently picked up a new Stainless-Steel G2 Contender Frame with 2 Barrels. Barrel #1 is a Stainless-Steel Super 14 .223 Remington which is topped with a 3x12x32mm Burris LER Fine Plex - PA Handgun Scope with Target Turrets. Barrel #2 is an On Target Technologies Custom 14" Chrome Moly Steel Barrel that has been Hard Chrome Plated (to match the Stainless-Steel Frame by Metaloy Industries) in .22 LR Match. This one also is topped with a 3x12x32mm Burris LER Fine Plex - PA Handgun Scope with Target Turrets. This one however has been modified by Burris so the AO will now eliminate parallax down to 18 yards so I can use it at our Indoor Shooting Range.

I plan on aquiring another barrel in the not to distant future also. One choice is obviously a .30-30 Ackley Improved, but then too I am also looking into a 7mm JDJ #2.

Yep Contender Handguns are amazing. They are also like Lays Potato Chips in that you can not have just ONE. With that said I am awaiting a phone call from my local dealer to tell me my 2nd Stainless-Steel G2 Contender Frame has arrived.
