Got a man wanting to pawn an old tec 9 to me. Kinda afraid if I loan him some money I will never see him again and be stuck with the gun. Never shot one but inspection showed it looked really poor made weapon. I belive I would be lucky to resell the gun for $300. Did check them out on gunbroker and to my suprise people are bidding on them. Anyone have any experience with them?

Garbage when they came out, garbage now. There is demand becasue they look "evil" and you can't get them any more. As a safety note the safety is a push pull device built into the cocking handle. If you apply the safety and then pull the trigger you will hear a faint click on the early models. This is the internal hammer snapping free of the sear and comming to rest on the safety (bolt knob). If the safety is released the gun will discharge full automatic for about 3 rounds and jam. Scared the hershey out of me at a crime scene once and I ended up killing a refrigerator in an apartment.:o
The leater models changed this to a different system with a trigger disconnect I believe.
There is a cottage industry cattering to people who like these stupid things. Like they say, stop making it and somebody will want one immediately.

I had a friend who bought one around 1990 because he thought it looked intimidating. He paid under $200 back then. He took it to the range and was averaging 8" groups @ 15 yards. At 25 yards He was averaging 12" groups. The gun also stovepiped the casings fairly regularly. I think the term "spray and pray" was coined with this gun in mind.

My brother had one back in the late 80's. Accuracy wasn't too bad, but was real finicky about the type of ammo it liked. I wouldn't buy one for $300 but some Draw slaggin' gangbanger might. Just so he can shoot it sideways and look cool.
other posters are correct.
Firing it is severe frustration in clearing stovepipes and pulling the recalcitrant bolt back ( not easy ).
The magazines are a joke, and I can find NO ammunition that feeds reliably.
They are for people who like to collect old or different firearms, or for someone who wants to look "cool".
If you can sell it for $300, you will be lucky, indeed.
Oh, and contact me immediately if you can find someone who will give $400 or more and I will sell them mine!

I've only seen two in person. One was nickle plated and they wanted 1000 bucks for it. Get a pulse. If you nickle plate a turd, is it better? The other was just as big a piece of crap as everyone has said.

I had a guy try to trade me his TEC-9 for my .308 Saiga... Needless to say I passed on that after about 2 minutes of research

these guns are the true meaning of jam o matic ...horrible accuracy
18 inch groups at 10 yards..... the only idiots stupid enough to buy these are the ones slinging crack on the corner and might need one or two shots (no more than three) in the general direction to scare another dealer off ....... the tec 9 was the worst invention since fingernail toilet paper.... you might get one or two rounds off before jamming occurs ...I've seen two or three in my years laying beside dead drug dealers jammed up......guess what happened to the drug dealer when his tec-9 jammed in a fire fight with rival gang members.......but he looked cool........friggin idiot......
i had one years back that i paid 140 for i shot hundreds of rounds through it and it never jammed, couldnt hit crap with it thou ,oh no i bought one does this meen i am a idiot???

I don't think so Max. I think we've all bought things on impulse that looked pretty cool but were less than stellar performers. That's the good thing about these forums, it's not the gospel but will give you a heads-up of a potential Stinker.
